Sometimes yes. If the books sounds really interesting, I can ignore the cover, but I hate it when they have really cheesy covers. Actually, I disliked the cover on my copy of Interview with the Vampire, so I made it a new cover. That way I didn't have to look at it anymore.

It depends on the genre. If I am exploring a genre I'm not familiar with, I will avoid the tacky covers. But if I'm familiar with the genre, the covers aren't considered tacky. I like science fiction. Many of the covers are ridiculously tacky if you're not familiar with the genre but within the genre, what's considered tacky might be the most attractive. Put a robot filing a woman's nails whose dress is made of fire straps on the surface of a purple moon and I'll read it. Same goes with horror and romance.
Cheap, though, is subjective. Maybe it's better to say it's not professionally-designed. Yes, I do avoid those whether I should or not.

I actually get turned off by the cartoon like covers. I'm really glad I've never had one on my own books. If I know the author, I pick up the book anyway. I think the cartoon covers or whatever you call them have a juvenile look like a teen book rather than an adult read. After that, I like most covers, whether it's plain, or has a hunky guy or lovely woman. If it's only going to have one of them, I pick up the one with the hunky guy first.

No.
Actually those kinds of novels are the ones that draw my attention and make me want to read it!
I don't know why. I think it is because I am the kind of person that likes funny books and those cheesy/corny looking novels (not the romance books) usually look funny to me, even if they aren't. And if they aren't, I might still read it depending on what the book is about. =)
Romance books though, don't really draw me in because in some aspect, they are all the same. BO-RING.

Yes,although you are not supposed to choose a book by its cover, I have to say that I am very aware of which company prints a book and can usually tell the publisher by the appearance of the jacket.
I also find myself snickering at girly books in the literature section: ones with polka dotted panties on the cover or a pair of expensive shoes. Obviously, if a book has to use silly pop-culture pictures and references on the cover, it has to be compensating for something.

I wish I could say, "why, no! I only look at the quality of the book!" Yeah-right! If I can say it here and now, I'd like to say please DON'T let the cover throw you. Compare the covers versus the text, pitting such books against each other, as Harry Potter and Twilight. Yeah, I'll say it here and now. Harry's cover art stinks! Twilight's cover art is slick and draws you in. Now compare the text. Are you getting my point here?

yeah somtimes. i like romance novels. it just depends on how the authors describes the characters. the kind of books i like is when the authors makes the characters seem so real, it's almost hard to believe that they're fake. or fiction books that seem kind of like a true story, but it isn't. those are the books i love

If I'm looking for a book to read, yes. If I'm looking for a book to glance through and boost my confidence in my own writing, that's what I pick up. Really-- if you think you can't write, go to the Dollar Store and open one of the romances to any page. Read it and your confidence is restored. It's a cure-all!

Not really, and I enjoy the romance ones with the hunkalicious guy and the woman practically exploding out of her bodice
