  • Can a black person also be called white?

Ca a black person with one white parent and one black parents be called a "white black"?

I ask this because of the Zimmerman case in Florida where the media is calling him a "white Hispanic" because he has a white father and a Hispanic mother with native Central/south American ancestry, not European.

Has the media ever called Obama a white African-American?

  • Do plastic corks contaminate wine?

I sent the following letter to Robert Mondavi wine company. Do you agree with it?

Robert Mondavi wines have been ruined by the plastic cork.

Yesterday I bought a Robert Mondavi Private Selection Merlot 2009 and after my first sip I could taste the leakage from the pastic cork in the entire bottle. I could not drink the rest of the wine and put it down the drain.

All wines that have plastic corks have this distinctive plastic taste.

To confirm, take a new wine bottle, put water in it, then put a plastic cork in it and let it stay there for a couple of weeks. After a while, uncork the water and taste it. You will be shocked at the plastic taste. That's what you're doing to your wines.

If you don't want to use cork, use screw-on caps instead. They don't contaminate the wine like plastic corks do to every bottle.

The next time I buy a wine from you and discover that it has a plastic cork, and therefore ruined wine, I'm going to return it for a refund.

  • Basic stocks question?

I'm a complete newbie for stocks and for the past year I've setup sample portfolios on Yahoo and Google and experimented with 'purchasing' stocks. Help me to understand something:

If I had around $300 worth to spend:

If I buy 250 shares of a $2.00 stock and it increases by $2.00, I would make $500 if I sold it, right?

But, if I bought 2 shares of a $150 stock and it increases by $2.00, I would make $4, right?

Therefore, why aren't more people buying the cheaper stock and investing larger amounts of volume into them?

My sample portfolios have shown that these cheaper stocks have increased in price safely.

    Am I understanding this correctly?

  • What is this 60s song?

I've asked this a few years before and have never received an answer but now with the expanse of YouTube it might be easier. I know there's a song from the 60s that speaks about the 'universe' and has somewhat of a 'Aquarius' vibe to it, but it's definitely not 'Aquarius'. I wish I could tell more about it. If you think you can help, please feel free to ask me questions to help narrow the selection.

  • Baptists: Is marriage a sacrament?

How do Baptists/Protestants decide what is a sacrament and what is not a sacrament? How does this differ from the Catholic Church?

  • Compliment v. Complement?

If you already know the difference between those two words, please think about the following:

A hotel provides a shuttle from the airport as a compliment/complement to your room.

Conditions: It's not free because you have to purchase a room to receive the service. Or, it could be marketed as a free service when you buy a room.

    Therefore, which sentence is correct:

    A) The hotel provides a complementary shuttle from the airport.

    B) The hotel provides a complimentary shuttle from the airport.

    Discuss.

  • How did all lug nuts came loose while driving?

After one year, all lug nuts on my wheel came loose when I was going around 60MPH. It did damage to the wheel and I had it towed to have the rim replaced. The only time I had the car tires off was one year ago when I bought new tires. The mechanic told me that the other tire on the other side was also coming loose. Since I bought new tires, I've put on 2,000 miles on the car. I rarely drive over 50 MPH and only drive a few miles per day. Is it possible that the tire repair shop did not properly torque the wheels and that they've slowly come loose after a year of slow driving and 2,000 miles? Expert advice requested. Thanks in advance!

  • What to do with kids in Paris for Christmas?

I will be in Paris with three children (1, 2, and 4) for a few days over the Christmas holiday, including Christmas (Dec. 18-Dec 26).

The typical sites aren't going to be kid-worthy at their age, plus I've already seen them, so I'm at a loss for what to do so they won't be bored and want them to be engaged instead of sitting in a hotel room.

    Please advise!

  • What are the principles of selling stock?

I'm a complete newbie to stocks and I've been considering starting a Zecco account. I'm confused about the principles behind selling stock. How can you sell a stock that is losing money? If it's losing money, wouldn't no one be buying it? If you sell a stock, is it instantaneous or do you have to wait until someone buys it?

  • Should mother view ultrasound before abortion?

A new law that's being considered by several states is that abortion facilities offer the images of the sonogram that is already provided before an abortion to the mother. Most mothers who see the live baby inside them decide not to have an abortion after viewing the sonogram. Should this law be passed?

  • What is a stock trade?

It's such a basic question, but what is a stock trade?

For example, E-Trade charges a commission per trade, but I don't know what that is. If I bought one share from one company, two shares from a different company, and 20 shares from a third company, how many trades is that?

Then, if I sold them later that day (hypothetically-speaking), how many trades is that?

If E-Trade charges $9.99 per trade, how much would they charge me that day?

  • Have you read 'The Secret History'?

"The Secret History," by Donna Tartt, is one of my favorite books. I've read it four times, each with a different feeling about it after I read the end, which shows that there is a lot of dimension to it. If you've read it, what is your perspective? And why do you think it has never been made into a movie?

  • Will you read the next Clique book ?

The seventh book, "It's not easy being mean" is coming out on March 7. Here is a fantastic review which I think treats it very fairly:

    http://www.speroforum.com/site/article.asp?idCateg...

I think a lot of people love the books because they're entertaining and hilarious. A lot of people fail to see the satire.

Read the comments from the author in the review above. What do you think?

  • Should users answer homework questions?

I see many questions here that are obviously homework questions such as "What innovations developed from the American Revolution?" or "How did George know Myrtle was cheating on him in 'The Great Gatsby'?"

Yahoo! Answers is built around those who provide the best (and therefore complete) answers so those who essentially do the person's homework gets rewarded and is therefore complicit in cheating. The answers here are much more precise than Cliff Notes or an encyclopedia and are not indexed quickly enough for a teacher to do a search.

Should users reply to obvious homework questions? Or should they tell the user to do his or her own homework as a warning to others who may not know they're cooperating in cheating? Or should Yahoo create a flag so that users can flag it as a potential homework question without being penalized?

I also think there are reasonable homework questions one can ask here but nothing that obviously leads to a complete answer and no work for the student.
