What is a stock trade?

It's such a basic question, but what is a stock trade?

For example, E-Trade charges a commission per trade, but I don't know what that is. If I bought one share from one company, two shares from a different company, and 20 shares from a third company, how many trades is that?

Then, if I sold them later that day (hypothetically-speaking), how many trades is that?

If E-Trade charges $9.99 per trade, how much would they charge me that day?

A trade is either a buy or sell of a share of stock.

A stock trade is where you buy some shares of a listed company. It doesn't matter how many shares you buy but it has to be in the one company. Also, you'll find Zecco is very good as a discount broker (10 free trades a month).

Also, if you buy 20 shares of Microsoft and then sold those 20 shares the next day and the broker charged $10 per trade, you would have payed $20, i.e. you are charged when you buy and then when you sell.

    Hope I helped.

Every transaction you make counts as a trade.

If you buy 1 share of 1 company that is 1 trade.

If you buy 2 shares of another company that is 1 trade

If you buy 20 shares of another company that is 1 trade.

That gives you 3 trades. If you sell them that is another 3 trades.

The amount they charge you is automatically deducted from your account when you place a trade.

A stock buy or sale is a trade, no matter how many or quantity of shares are traded. your example has 6 trades which will cost you $60.

each purchase counts as a trade regardless of the number of shares. In your example you have three trades then each time you make a sell that is considered a trade.
