Does anyone have non-Muslim relatives/friends observing the Ramadan fast?

If so, how do they like it so far?

I am currently non-Muslim but considering conversion - so I am fasting for the month of Ramadan. How do I like it? So far it has been an awesome experience. I've been more into my beliefs, closer to God and am developing a much clearer understanding of what it is like for many in this world who don't have the opportunity to eat as often as I normally do.

This is my first Ramadan since I reverted to Islam. My husband is Egyptian and we live in Luxor,Egypt. Like most Egyptians he has a large extended family who come together for efers during Ramadan. In previous years I have only fasted from food and maintained drinking coffee,Coke and water during the fasting hours.

In the evenings I have readily enjoyed the special and rather large efers when all the family got together and ate until we could eat no more.

I must admit I was really worried whether or not I would have the willpower to maintain a complete fast and it was really concerning me as Ramadan drew closer.

I was actually dreading it to be quite honest. It was not the act of fasting but the fear of failure and breaking my fast was my big concern.

I was even dreaming about it. In a very clear dream I was talking on the telephone and made myself a cup of coffee and was drinking it when my friend said" Whatever are you doing........? I don't really know how she knew I had a cup of coffee.

But that is what dreams are like, they are always just a little out of whack with reality.

So I have experienced Ramadan from both aspects now and I have found that the complete fast is really not so hard.

But, I have taken this month to catch up on research notes that have been on my desk waiting for me to find time to spend a few work days away from the site and in my home office.

Ramadan is a time when many of us have to review our outdoor activities, especially when you spend hours in an unsheltered area and it is still quite hot here.

Went to a movie called Occupation 101 tonight. Some of the non-Muslims there were fasting. They enjoyed it. Said it challenged them.

Every year the Mayor of Houston host an Iftar (breaking of the fast) with the community in front of City Hall.
