A Doomsday Scenario?
Please STAR this excellent question. (You know it deserves it.) The winner will be picked from those that gave me a star for the question.
You are watching TV one day, when suddenly there is an emergency interruption. In a special news bulletin they announce the worst case scenario for the planet Earth. Sitting there horrified you learn that scientists have now confirmed that a huge dark object the size of Mars is heading straight for Earth at a speed of over 150,000 MPH. Due to it's tremendous speed and lack of a reflective surface, scientists were unable to detect it and give people more than a very small amount of advanced warning. The calculations have now been confirmed and we have less than 48 hours before the entire Earth will be completely obliterated.
The question is...how will you choose to spend your last 2 days, before the Earth and everyone on it, becomes part of the newly formed asteroid belt, which will no doubt result from the catastrophic collision?
Welcome to all those from the Psychology section.
First of all let me just say thanks to all of you for your answers and an extra thanks to those of you that gave me a star for the question. This question was purely hypothetical and designed to simply make you think.
Secondly...for those of you that question that actual feasibility of my question, you are wrong. Although unlikely, the scenario is entirely possible to actually occur someday. It is well within the parameters of actual Astrophysics. (I can prove it to anyone that doubts me.)
Never live in fear, but at the same time...live life aware of what can happen to us at any minute, without warning. Moral of the story is : Treat others nice while we are all still here co-existing on this planet. (Humans are only here on borrowed time.)

I presume that for purposes of this question that you are assuming that I do not have a space-faring vehicle that would allow me to escape total destruction by simply moving to the Martian colonies. :-)
As a Buddhist, I believe that life-force energy is neither created not destroyed; it simply takes on a new form. However, it seems that the preferred form, that of sentient but limited beings (e.g. humans) will be pretty much unavailable under this scenario. But would that challenge my belief structure?
Not really. We honestly have no idea what the Universe has out there. Perhaps it is totally devoid of life, or perhaps there are "billions and billions" of civilisations beyond our own. Regardless, life will find a way of forming itself again, even if the form is an aetheral one.
As for the question of what I would do, I'd likely go through the five stages of denial ("It's a movie of the week!"), anger ("We're not going to take it anymore!"), bargaining ("My kingdom for a spaceship!"), despair ("So this is it, we're going to die!"), and finally acceptance ("It's the end of the world and I feel fine.") By my estimate, this should take a day. For lastday, I would likely try to meditate on the subject, but my hope is that some kind of record of Earth be sent off into the heavens, detailing us as a species, both the good and the ugly. Perhaps it will be found by another civilisation. That dream would be a pleasant one as unparallelled carnage takes place about me.

So if tonight I was watching TV and found out I was gonna die in two days what would I do with my last two days? Well, first I would spend my time with my kids and husband. Then break my husband and his families heart when I tell them that my mind has been on somebody else for awhile. I would probably cry since I don't like hurting people but with the hours ticking away it might be the only chance I would have to find out if he was suppose to be my true love after all. So I would not have to wonder if it is suppose to be my husband or somebody else. Confusing isn't it?

This scenario is physically unlikely. Any object that fast from outside the Solar System can only be slung shot by the Sun's gravity, because its angular momentum about the Sun is conserved.
To be a threat the object's must continuously slow down, like an alien missile.
That said, how to spend last days. Just like any other day. Maybe some panic and prayer in the final hours I don't know.

OK. Assuming that the data you have presented in the statement around which your question is constructed it seems to me any changes anyone would make would just be a waste of energy. My choice will include sharing that remaining time with my immediate family members, and the three best friends in my life; if they were available. Nothing else matters.

Pretty dumb question really. No government would ever make such an announcement as the only thing it would achieve is to start a major panic.
During the so called "Cold War" in the 1960 and 1970 It was the policy of the UK goverrnment that in the event of a Nuclear War (A similar scenario to yours) no announcement would be made.

you know 1:scientists can spot it from hundred of years before it gets so close to us.2:no goverment announce this to its people but tries to save the earth maybe by shooting many atomic rockets to it.3:to answer your question i must say we have the duty to save our life so till the last second we resist and we can hide some where maybe in the basement with the hope that the air force can explode it or can turn it less harmful or it hits the other side of the earth and we can live longer.but we must not lose our hope.
