Alligator Lizard or Banded Gecko ?
Just had a visitor in my home in Phoenix. I'm used to scorpions about once a month. But today had a 1.5-2 inch long lizard (juvenile?). base color was gold, with black (dark brown) stripes across it's back. Photos didn't come out too well. I scooped him & put him outside.
But how do I tell the difference ? images on the web don't correspond too well.

Blurred picture in bottom of bucket. Lateral bands do continue down tail. Proportions of tail to body 5/50 - not as long a tail (proportionally) as a Whiptail.
I meant 50/50 - not 5/50.

That actually looks like a type of gecko. I can't really see the picture REAL well, but according to it's face shape and it's legs it really looks like a type of gecko. No, after researching it, it is in fact a banded gecko.

Sounds like a skink. Does it have a thin head? A tail of a different colour? Is it quite thin and have tiny slippery scales? If yes, then it is probably a skink. Careful, it's tail may fall off.
If no, then I can't help you.
