  • Is it too late to open a SEP IRA, for 2007 ?

I worked 1099 (software designer) until the end of May. For the rest of the year I was unemployed.

I am starting a new job in a week & as I now have income again, I want to open & invest in a SEP IRA for 2007. Am I too late ?

I've filed my Q4 estimate. But haven't submitted my return.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

  • Is there a problem with stainless sinks on tile countertops.?

My kitchen has tile countertops on a concrete base. The sink is cast, with some hard (ceramic?) coating. I HATE the sink with a passion. I've chipped it badly in places & want to replace it.

The builders told me I couldn't have a stainless steel sink because I have the tile countertops.

WHY ? What are my alternatives ? Any good DIY links (I already have Michael Holigans web page & video for sink replacement).

    Thanks.

  • How do I effectively shave my scalp ?

OK - I've been shaving my face for almost 30 years, with no problem. Due to a diminishing amount of hair on my head, I've been doing a buzz cut with the barbers trimmer for a few years. But now, even that is untidy. I tried a regular wet razor, I tried a "scalp razor", I even tried an electric razor - often I try all 3 one ofter the other. Net result - 30-45 minutes wasted, bleeding & not all the hair has been shaved off.

Hints, tips, etc. would be appreciated. Please be sure to tell me if you speak from personal experience.

And ladies - how long does it take you to have your legs & how often do you do so ?

  • Second Life bandwidth ?

I have cable broadband internet with (up to) 1.5Mps. I can get (up to) 7Mps for another $14. I have a pre-N modem/router & can handle up to 100Mps from that point to my PC.

Would it make significant difference (e.g. lag) to upgrade to the 7Mps service, if the line from the box outside the house, to the modem, is coaxial cable ? Or would it makes any difference at all.

I do have a high performance tower system, that I built 4 years ago. So it's down on RAM and I plan to upgrade all-round performance. But is bandwidth an issue too ?

  • what is wrong with Musharref being in charge of the army ?

The President of the United States is the Head of State. He is constitutionally empowered to be the Commander in Chief - the highest ranking officer in the military. The only limitation is that he requires congressional approval to declare war (but the Korean War started without approval).

General Musharref is Pakistan's head of state. He is also in charge of the military.

The executive branch is demanding that Musharref step down as head of the military. Can anyone see the contradiction in that ?

Sure - General Musharref is an evil dictator, he was not democratically elected in free elections. He took power in a military coup & the only elections held since then have NOT been free by any measure of the term "free".

But haven't W & his cronies pushed the envelope demanding action of other countries, that they will not take themselves ?

  • Is the Windows OneCare firewall different from the Vista firewall ?

Just installed OneCare trial & it turned off the Vista firewall. OneCare says "Firewall Restricted". If OneCare does have it's own firewall, that MIGHT be OK. But if it has turned off the one & only firewall, that's BAD.

  • How many people have NOT seen the final scene in X-Men 3.?

I watched X-Men 3 movie 3 or 4 times, before I saw the final scene - AFTER the credits. I understand that it's an incredibly significant scne that all but guranatees an X-Men 4 movie.

BUT WTF - who keeps watching after the credits ? I only saw it because it was on HBO & I was going to watch the following program.

  • Alligator Lizard or Banded Gecko ?

Just had a visitor in my home in Phoenix. I'm used to scorpions about once a month. But today had a 1.5-2 inch long lizard (juvenile?). base color was gold, with black (dark brown) stripes across it's back. Photos didn't come out too well. I scooped him & put him outside.

But how do I tell the difference ? images on the web don't correspond too well.

  • Q. What is the AL Division series schedule - assuming the Yankees get the Wild Card ?

I'll be in NY on Saturday Oct. 6th & as I can't go cheer FOR the Diamondbacks, I might as well go cheer AGAINST the Yankees - I was at game 6 of the WS in 2001 & we all had a great time winning 15-2 :-)

  • How much can a Toyota FJ Cruiser really Tow ?

The official figure is 5,000 pounds. But often, experienced towers say that's under ideal conditions (not at altitude, in snow, etc.) and that 2/3rds of that is a better real limit.

But my understanding is - the limit for the FJ is based on the short wheelbase - not it's power. How close to (or ever over) the 5,000 pounds can I safely go, towing a travel trailer ?

  • Professional Certification -> College Credit?

I have Sun & IBM certications. Does anyone know how/where I can establish college credits for these certifications ?

I want to go complete a BSc. But after 20 years of software design, I don't want to waste time/money in class, when I have certifications.

  • Compare/Contrast loose coupling & strongly typed?

Studying SOA design (especially service integration), I come from a legacy mainframe background & I'm currently a messaging specialist.

What is the best description of the difference between loose coupling & strong typing as they relate to service interfaces.

I think I understand. But I'd appreciate a second explanation. THX.

  • RF signal strength.?

I live in South Phoenix, just next to the mountain that carries TV & cell phone towers. I'm a little in the shadow of the mountai. But normally have a strong signal.

Every year when the monsoon storms come in, I lose cell phone service. I normally figure maybe there's a problem with the cell phone tower in the high winds. But this year, I lost my WiFi, despite being only 20-30 feet away from my router & normally having a strong signal.

Is it possible that atmospheric conditions, associated with the storms (and static charge from all the dust that the storms carry), are causing both problems ?

If not, WTF is going on. I blamed my (COX cable) ISP. They've been out to me every year for the last 8 years, and they've replaced many coaxial connections, to fix drawback in the solid core. I think they've also fitted a kind of modulator on the coaxial, going in to the router. The signal to the router looked strong this year.

  • Idiots guide to Buddhism ?

Can anyone help me with pointers, etc. to help appreciate Buddhism, as a total novice ?

Lapsed Christian, I looked at Deism, Humanism & Pantheism. But I'm trying to find more personal/inner strength & I want my life back.

I'm not great at taking instructions - I never was in highschool, anyway. I prefer to study alone & learn my own wisdom, rather than have someone else preach their wisdom to me.

  • Q. What is the best home base for a cell phone?

    I have a cell phone & a land line. On a busy day, I get 1 call.

Where can I get a home base / docking bay for a T-Mobile MDA (USB 2), to route phone calls from my cell phone to my home phone ? Which is the best/cheapest ?

I have bad hearing (too much Motorhead) and my MDA has a crap phone. So I want to quit the land line & use my cell phone as my 1 and only phone, instead - via a decent handset.

    Ideas ???

  • Stacked Raid 0 arrays ?

Can you stack raid 0 arrays - e.g. take 2 raid 0 arrays - perhaps 2 sets of pairs of 120Gb 7200rpm SATA drives and feed them into another raid controller - to effectively create a logical 480Gb 28,800rpm drive ?

If it can be done & provides a useful advantage, what is the limit on how many layers can be stacked ?

Does anyone have any professional research results & data on this ?

    Thanks.
