Second Life bandwidth ?
I have cable broadband internet with (up to) 1.5Mps. I can get (up to) 7Mps for another $14. I have a pre-N modem/router & can handle up to 100Mps from that point to my PC.
Would it make significant difference (e.g. lag) to upgrade to the 7Mps service, if the line from the box outside the house, to the modem, is coaxial cable ? Or would it makes any difference at all.
I do have a high performance tower system, that I built 4 years ago. So it's down on RAM and I plan to upgrade all-round performance. But is bandwidth an issue too ?

I've found myself that it all has to do with distance from the gaming server more than anything...I had a 125kbs connection and had a 80 ping on most servers....then went to highspeed and had a 100 ping...so I'd say it would make very little difference...
This is what does make a diff...Tweaking your connection!!!
Here's how to do this...
Actually what matters most is your PING...the time delay...lower is better as you know...Speed only helps so much...Most good Modems like say Motorola have plenty fast enough speeds (1gb per second) for gaming online...I have a 120kbps connection (ISDN speed on cable lite using a Motorola cable modem) and still get a ping average of 50-100 on most servers...yea with that little bit of bandwidth...what's my secret??? Read on....
The best way to speed up your Internet Access and get full bandwidth out of your connection is by Windows Registry settings...
This is easily done with CableNut Adjuster... (Also works for dialup & DSL)
Go here and download the Free Adjuster...
Then go here for the settings to put into it...You can download the file then import it into the adjuster...easy...
Tip: For your input caps put a higher speed in than the actual speed caps of your ISP. This will give you better results and faster overall speeds.

After putting in the new settings into the adjuster save to registry, then reboot and test your new speeds... (Make sure to backup the default settings first)
I've had friends do this and go from 6mbs to 10mbs download speeds...
This will also help with online gaming ping...I had a 120kbps (+20% faster using CableNut) (15KBs) connection (limited cable service advertised at 100kbps) and average 50-100 ping on most servers...
Now at 1000kbs connection (1200kbs using CableNut!)

Upgrade the internet connection...you'll increase throughtput by over 400% to your PC. The coax connection is the responsibilty of your ISP...let them worry about it.
