RF signal strength.?

I live in South Phoenix, just next to the mountain that carries TV & cell phone towers. I'm a little in the shadow of the mountai. But normally have a strong signal.

Every year when the monsoon storms come in, I lose cell phone service. I normally figure maybe there's a problem with the cell phone tower in the high winds. But this year, I lost my WiFi, despite being only 20-30 feet away from my router & normally having a strong signal.

Is it possible that atmospheric conditions, associated with the storms (and static charge from all the dust that the storms carry), are causing both problems ?

If not, WTF is going on. I blamed my (COX cable) ISP. They've been out to me every year for the last 8 years, and they've replaced many coaxial connections, to fix drawback in the solid core. I think they've also fitted a kind of modulator on the coaxial, going in to the router. The signal to the router looked strong this year.

Sounds like you may be experiencing RFI (radio frequency interference) from your close proximity to the high-powered TV and cell phone transmitters. Certain atmospheric conditions can intensify this effect. There is not much that can be done in that situation, except move farther away.

Since you are losing signal with wi fi within 20-30 feet...it might be an issue with your wireless router...

or else go ahead connecting an access point or a range expander....

this will greatly improve the signal strength.....

hope you will enjoy using wifi thereafter....

if you lost your wi-fi - check your router and wireless card. as long as router getting connection to cable modem - it has nothing to do with cable provider.

if you want to check signal levels for cable modem - call cox and they will check it for you on the phone
