How do I put a screen saver shortcut icon on my (Vista home premium) desktop ?
Talking about the regular screen saver, selected in Personalization > Screen Saver, rather than any add on screen saver, invoked by any other means.

Go to C:\Windows\System32, Find the screensaver you are using and create a shortcut like you would for any other file, then drag it onto the desktop.

To invoke the screen saver, just press window key and L key
(window key is on lower left corner between Crtl and Alt keys)

thats not poosible to it take a sertain amount of time to go on to screen saver and to change it you would need to go to display properties then screen saver all by right clicking the desktop.
