How can we spend a trillion dollars in Iraq, but..........?
How can we spend a trillion dollars in Iraq, but 5 years on we are still FUND RAISING for a memorial to 40 heros on United Flight 93 ?
3pm - turboweegie questioned the amount spent in Iraq. It's true we have "only" spent 1/3 a trillion so far. But at over $100 billion a year, I sincerely believe it WILL add up to something like a trillion, when all is said & done.
Turboweegie also said "It is not the government's job to erect memorials - it is OURS". Guess that excludes Arlington (where we buried an 18yo Marine today, who was 13 years old on 9/11), and it also excludes the Pearl Harbor memorial.
But my final question is - doesn't the federal government have a moral obligation to commemorate those who volunteered to give their lives to protect their contry & their government - as those on United flight 93 did ?
Earlier this year, the Senate found $200 million to build a "Bridge to nowhere" in a brief session - the memorial in Pennsylvania was projected at $30-$60 million & that has to be raised via fund raising.

Uh, we haven't spent 'a trillion' dollars in Iraq. I think the total of all the extra spending bills that include rebuilding of Iraq's infrastructure, etc, totals $300 billion. Not small, but not 'a trillion'. Perhaps if we cared more about facts than rhetoric, we could have a more reasonable dialogue.
As for the memorial, the fund raising is from private donations, as most of the other memorials in this country were. It is not the government's job to erect memorials - it is OURS.

well, we're drawing on a much smaller fund base for that memorial! It needs to happen, for sure, but if I have $20, I'd rather it go toward armor for a soldier than a statue in Pennsylvania. The true memorial of those heroes is in our hearts, anyway.

Because we have a government with its head up its ***. What about feeding the hungry and housing the homeless right here in the U.S. The cost of rebuilding in Louisiana and Misssissippi after Katrina is outrageous because of how much lumber has been sent to Iraq. How can we rebuild Iraq and not LA and MS

Use your brains, bonehead!
Iraq needs more help - there are LIVING people there who are not terrorists, but people who have suffered under Saddam - widows, kids, disabled people, etc. Plus our troops are there as well - or HAVE U FORGOTTEN THAT????????
The memorial can wait some lavish expenses - a simple one will suffice for now, which the government is doing, with the help of some private donations as well.

Republicans are anti american it rather is that straightforward. I remember democrats and independents becoming to be a member of with Bush after 9/11 to combat terror. they might have truthfully savaged him and had him impeached in the event that they chosen to with the aid of fact the evidence replaced into there. he no longer purely did no longer act in time yet he handed over protection briefs that stated in basic OBL desperate TO STRIKE. They failed many times. they even brought about the debt ceiling crumple and the wall street crumple. they might besides brought about the deaths of 3000 people and limitless others in iraq and to good all of it off iraq and iran are actually allies. that ought to by no skill had handed off had saddam nevertheless been in capacity. and that i study their inner memo to coping with Obama and it pronounced that they should "combat him on each little thing," they concept this replaced right into a stable concept in the process the worst financial catastrophe interior the history of the country which they brought about. they're un american.

Because the fundraising efforts are run by greedy people. The longer they carry out the process the longer they can receive a paycheck for thinking about building a statue with a bunch of names on it. This is possible, but I have not confirmed it yet.

Perhaps we can get corporate sponsorship the memorial? Naming right? "The Nabisco International Memorial to The Flight that Disappeared."

becuase to the people that spend this money, it's all about how we look in the eyes of the world.
I think we worry too much about the rest of this world, when there are too many things to do right here.

Because a memorial to those people doesn't kill muslims. It sits there needs to be cleaned and all.
