Many community colleges have retraining programs for people who lose their jobs. Go see someone and find out what programs they have plus the financial aid office for grants etc. He should retrain in a career where there is a demand. Most programs take 2 years or under.

The economy is totally shot with over 56% of all americans unemployed, so if he finds a job that will hire him, he is doing good. The best way to actually make some money is to find something you are interested in and start your own business related to it. It may take a few attempts to find just the right thing to do, but its better than sending out resume's every day and hoping for a hit.
Source(s): I am the only one of my group of friends who is employed on an ongoing regular basis, and thats because I have a consulting company doing odd jobs and odd computer work - otherwise I would have been unemployed for the past 5 years like they are. It's TOUGH out there right now! You cant even get a job working in a supermarket if you have a college degree - they only want either the really young or the really old! - Anonymous1 decade ago
Okay lets sEE if I got this right, your son is 46 years old and you are trying to find him a job!! Maybe first you should take the diapers off and get the Binky out of his mouth.
I understand he is your son but there come a time to cut the apron stings and tell him to get a life. ANYONE who really wants a job can find one. Heck Burger King is always hiring!!

I really hope you meant 16 years old. If he is that old and his mommy is looking for a job.......that's sad. If he's 16, then there are a lot of opportunities, such as Walmart, grocery store or even a paper route. Well, i would also advise that for a 46 year old man looking for a job.

Does he have any degrees at all

Most cities have a fairly high foreclosure rate right now. There are people who are hired by the banks to go in and clean out the properties as well as do basic repairs. I would look for someone who does that in your area and have your son learn the trade. Look for companies with things like Mortgage Field Service in their name.

tell him to start small get a job at micky Ds but keep looking for something more go to a school at night for a trade in computers but really push to better himself.
just because he's down dont mean he will stay down he has to fight to get out of the rutt as long as he think about the problem of not having a job the more his own thoughts will keep him down.
find something that easy to get into
but keep looking for something better

Not enough info - what experience does he have? What are his interests? Who is hiring? All important questions.
I can only say that he needs to just do something, somewhere until he finds a job he likes. Usually, you don't find the right job unless you already have a job.

Your son is 46....a grown man. If he needs his mother to come on yahoo answers for him to get a job, he's not qualified for any job.
