Saleen S-281 E VS Cobra?

Well long story short after getting a ride in my cousin 2004 cobra I was like wow I need to get back in FI V8's. Well I am looking to the S281E and the SVT Cobra.

Well first let me start by saying thank you for giving me your answer. I am not new the powerful V8’s or new to driving 500+whp cars(just FYI).

Ok I haven’t seen my cousin in months and he has done some basic upgrades to his 2004 Cobra cat-back exhaust, intake, heat exchanger, tune, rear end. Wow it got a lot faster. It got me thinking and I was like I want 2003-04 Cobra. But in the same price range I can buy S-281 E. If I remember correctly both cars make about similar HP. Really at a rock and hard place in deciding.

2003-2004 Cobra Motor and trans can handle a lot and car is perfect for my HP goals 500WHP and 11.5 or best ¼ on Slick.

2001-2004 Saleen Looks freaking sexy always wanted one cant say how wow it looks, but don’t like that’s its SOHC.

I guess on comparison what both cars what are the HP possibilities of a stock bottom end and head Saleen, and how will the Cobra stack up to the cornering and handling to the Saleen. What would you guys suggest to get?

Update:

About the fakes I kinda know where to look mainly I am looking for a stock cobra and stock saleen, what would you drive and the car isnt a daily

Update 2:

Well pricing for Cobra's range from $20,000-30,000 depending milege and condition, yes on the S-281 E go for $35,000.

Your gonna spend a little more for a saleen because there were less made. Plus your gonna come across a lot of fakes.

The 2004 Cobra (terminator) took mods very well. You can get big horsepower for cheap.

The 2004 cobra also had indepent rear suspension. I don't believe the saleen did.

    EDIT

im a big fan of the terminator cobras. But the saleen is a little more rare.

I personally am gonna get in a cobra in a few years to go along with my 2004 lightning.

You can find an 04 cobra with lots of modifications (bigger supercharger, pulleys, intake, exhaust) for reasonable prices. Check different car forums such as svtperformance.com. in there classifieds. You also might wanna check corral.net.

    Hope this helps.

I don't know where you are pricing these, but it sounds wrong. I've never seen a Saleen 281 -E for under 30-35k. I've seen plenty of 03-04 Cobra's in the mid to low 20's. Dollar wise go with the Cobra, Performance wise go with the Cobra. If you want a mantle piece to shlep to car shows and wipe down with diapers every sunday, go with the Saleen. His cards are sweet no doubt, but under all the stickers, louvers and body cladding, it's still mom and dads Mustang....albeit with a much higher price tag. Pick up a cobra (with the head tick repairs already tended to). Put either a Kenne-Bell blowzilla on it, or be a real trend setter and go single turbo. 600-700+ daily driven, reliable *** planting hp at your disposal.

SVT cobra for sure. yea the saleen is sexy looking and powerful, but even just swaping the eaton supercharger for a kenne bell will give you way more horsepower.

I heard of a man that did the swap (only one modification) and had almost a full sec on a 07 Zo6. Same driver for both cars.
