A parish priest once told afriend to pay him money before prayers. Can one refer to the priest as a contractor

    Read the Book of Hebrews,there is only one mediator,one priest between you and God,Christ Jesus.So no need for confessions between you and an equally sinful human.All your prayers can be direct from you to the Lord through Jesus.You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.

    I doubt that very seriously. I've never had a priest ask for money.

    Now if you ask to have a mass said for someone it's traditional to offer a donation, but not required ever.

    No. IF he did such a thing, it's called "Simony" - a notable and evil violation of Canon Law and condemned by the Church and such a Priest could be deposed and defrocked for even SUGGESTING such a thing.
