What do you think of the Jena 6 case?
With fox news reporting that Jesse Jackson is calling out Barack Obama for "acting white" and not taking a stand here, I figured this would be a good time to ask the group's opinion on the case.

Overview of Jena 6 case.
I see there are a lot of people who feel that they should receive the full brunt of the law for the assault. Does it change your opinion that they were responding to 3 nooses being tied in trees where they had sat the day before.
Taking Jesse Jackson out of the equation (I think he's a complete opportunist and a disgrace) Is the tying of nooses in trees free speech or hate speech.

I don't believe they should have been tried as adults, and I do not believe it was attempted murder (unless something led the police to believe they were attempting murder). I do believe that 6 star football players ganging up to beat another boy is wrong. This beating occurred 3 months after the noose incident, so while I agree that tensions were building, it was not a direct relationship.
Were the charges excessive? Yes! Were the bonds excessive yes, but the violence happened at the school, which normally carries stronger charges than a fight off school grounds.
I believe Jesse Jackson is a fool. He says he doesn't remember saying Obama was acting white, but he also doesn't deny he said it.
Things like this are scary, and they continue to happen. Think back to high school, how little things could escalate out of control in no time. I actually blame the parents on both sides for letting the situation keep getting worse and worse.
Here is a really good timeline of the events.

Whites will be whites. That's all I can really say about that. Even though they are responsible for so many racist atrocities and outrage throughout America, sadly they will continue in their bigotry and excuse making indefinitely. Now on to the important part; I am so happy that Michael Bell's conviction was overturned. It reminded me when my brother was jumped by 9 kkk slobs back in the day. The principle just labeled it a "school boy brawl" until we sued them. I hate those bigots to this day. There isn't a day that goes by that I do not think about what happened to my brother and how the dumb white faculty from my school handled it. That began the formation of my opinion of these folks that hasn't changed sadly. It hasn't changed because they haven't. It's only gotten worse. I love the march today!! HOORAH!!! Go Jena 6!!!! Incidentally, the white guy that they charged the 6 with --- with attempted murder --- well, he went to a party the very same night that he was supposedly beaten so badly. What a crock!

I think the sentences that are being talked about are too harsh.
The members of the group that ganged up and assaulted the lone kid were wrong and committed a violent crime.
Had the ethnicity been the other way around, those screaming justice is too harsh would instead be screaming that the suggested jail time was not enough.
For the one kid facing trial who told the media that the case should be dropped and everyone should move on, whoever was supposed to protect him from doing (or saying) something stupid dropped the ball. Now that kid looks like he doesn't care about what happened and would do it again.
When your best defense is to say one of the witnesses may not have actually seen what happened, you make a commitment for your defense. When you then add that the victim of the attack wasn't hurt all that bad, you make it sound like you did it but it wasn't a big deal. Conflicting ploys.
I think we've got a long way to go in this country...

Two wrongs do not make a right. It was wrong to hang the nooses. Those who did that should be punished. It is wrong to assault others. Those who did this should be punished. The lesson to be learned is, do not force your ways and opinions on others. Just because the whites had a tree they met at does not mean that the blacks have to have it too. There were other places and trees that the blacks could have met at. But by forcing the issue and by making the whites do what the blacks wanted, the blacks set in motion a chain of events that now has six balcks in jail.

I worry about anything Jesse Jackson is "for" and will always cautiously take up being the "against" side until I hear more facts. He's proven time and again that he's nothing more than a racist, so I'll take anything he says with more than just a grain of salt.
As for the case, I'm sure its not as simple as anyone in the media says. The media has a tendency to over-simplify things to show what they want, which is black people in victim situations; Duke Lacrosse team, anyone? Not saying its right or wrong, just saying its true.
Also I thought FoxNews was for dummies. Apparently only when they say something you don't agree with?

I really don't know what to think. The kids were sitting underneath a tree the white kids normally sit under and the next day, there are nooses hanging from the tree.
I DO think that the charges against that one young man were a little extreme, though.

I think that the school let this whole situation escalate completely out of hand. I'm not a fan of Barack Obama but I think Jackson is an idiot and an opportunist, not to mention, a total bigot.

Well, here are the facts as I know them. A group of White kids jumped a black kid, and were expelled from school, but the school board ultimately revoked the expelling. In response, a group of Black Kids jumped one of those White Kids and were charged with attempted murder.
School fights happen, and even I was in a few. I'm glad I wasn't brought up on attempted murder charges.

I think Jackson likes to fuel racial tensions to increase the size of his wallet. Obama would probably get more support without the likes of Al and Jesse.

Jackson is a racist and the worst enemy that the black community has. Im no fan of Obama but what exactly does "acting white" mean. If I said someone was acting "black" Id probably be labeled a racist.
The only thing Jesse Jackson is good at is racial extortion.
