What kind of Moth/Caterpillar is this?

Question

it has a redish shade of body with a faint black thin line running down its back. and there are light yellow diagnal stripes on each segment. 

Multiple little tiny black specks cover the body. and at the very end of it, there is a black rimmed orange circle with a black spot in the middle. 

If you think you know what it is, i'd would like to know as well. I found it near a bike trail in my town where there was medium high cut grass and trees in the area, if that has anything to do with what this bug is.

Looks like a tobacco hornworm. They are usually green, but go brown when they are pupating. Could be some other related species.

It's not a hornworm, but it is of that family, the Sphingidae or
hawkmoths.  Pandorus sphinx may be correct, I don't have a
reference at hand to check on this.

hiya i have just had a look on google and your caterpillar looks like a Pandorus_Sphinx moth. there is a picture of the moth once the caterpillar has "hatched" it is quite a pretty moth . i hope this helps.
