New Category For MMA?
I put in a request through a "Yahoo Answers Team"
Staff member.
It will help if a lot if we all make request like the one below.
Hello,
We are a group that enjoys the Martial Arts category.
Here we are in 2007,how things have changed in the last 20 years.
Major changes in sport Martial Arts have brought about two groups of followers. One group is interested
in "Traditional" Martial Arts, the other in today's sport
"Mixed Martial Arts",MMA for short.
These competitions are beamed around the world
via satelite and cable, the size of the viewing audience is "Huge".
We suggest a "Sub" category for MMA,or when you click on Martial Arts you have a choice of :
"Traditional" or "MMA"
Let me know if you can help,
Jim
Note:People like me that like both can answer questions in both categories.
Look a few inches to the left,Football has "4" "Sub Categories"

awesome i think its time we recognize the split so i wont have to listen to mma people belittle the traditional arts.

I agree-a sub category or two would be nice and the fact that other sports have sub categories and martial arts does not probably means the people that make this decision are not martial artists nor familiar with its diversity. Keep working on it and sooner or later I bet it will happen but it never will if we all don't chime in. Make sure to add a logical reason or two that they can relate to and remember-its probably non-martial arts practitioners that make the decisions on this otherwise I would think we already would have a sub category or two.

I think it is a great idea, I'd split it as tradition, non-tradition. Or you could have sub groups for sport or non-sport views. Anyway you slice it, your just putting more and more space between the various views. At least this way we are a single group. If they split it into categories then were just seperating ourselves from each other that much more. All martial arts are one, it is just our views of them that make us "categories". I disagree with alot on this site but atleast were one single group not a bunch of sub-groups. I'd rather be a single force that have internal issue than a bunch of sub-groups that avoid our brothers and sisters just because of a little thing like various thoughts.

in my opinion i don't think of there ought to. MMA is area of classic martial arts have faith it or not. That and that i would not want to ought to bounce back and fourth between 2 categories (i like questions approximately the two) or drawing a line between so talked approximately as TMA and MMA. in spite of the undeniable fact that if there is going to function a sub class for MMA and such, it particularly is going to be talked approximately as "Ring activities" and canopy extra beneficial than purely MMA. This incorporates, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and Submission grappling competitions alongside with MMA. in my opinion i think of they might desire to additionally turn the boxing and wrestling categories into sub categories for the "Ring activities" area as properly, yet that in the time of all probability would not ensue.

Agreed. This has been put on the forums over and over but nothing has been done. It'd be easier for people who only want to answer the traditional questions and people like me who only answer MMA questions. It's just a little rediculous that Snooker, Cricket, and Surfing all have their own things but MMA can't get a section.

Truly agreed with above- take the Neo-WWF/WCW/WHATEVER to it's own category. It's gets really tiresome hearing how superior MMA is to EVERYTHING out there and question after question about who won what fight last week. Hell, Snooker has a category...

I'd like to see a separate category so MMA people don't have to see so many threads about "how to increase the power of my chi fireballs and teleportating Raging Demon attack". :p
