what causes blowby in a motor?
i have a 1980 camaro with a 350 with lots of miles on her, but SOMETIMES on big hills and or heavy load there is quite a bit of blowby coming from the valve cover vent, what might cause this?
she'll still rocks the tires and starts first time every time, and runs great with no smoke out exhaust and no leaks, u ucan E me @ timshaw40@yahoo.com
and she's not that bad on gas, if i stay oput of the 4 bbl.

All engines have a tendancy to have blow by. Yes it gets worse over the years. That is the reason for the PCV valve. The crankcase has air being built up inside all the time, it also has friction and heating metal along with sloshing oil. Which means you are gonna get smoke from the oil having to excape somewhere and that place is the valve cover...

Blowby is caused by oil slipping through the piston rings and getting burned. This is magnified when the car is under load i.e. going up a hill. It is just a product of age. There's nothing you can do about it except replace the piston rings. You could try running a little heavier oil, too. That may help a little.
