Rough idle on cold or warm start on 1990 Ford Aerostar. Not regularly til a week ago; I had the fuel?

filter replaced and got a few good smooth drives then back to the hard, rough idle on startup. No other engine symptoms and really was running great til this. It's a 6cylinder; think the engine is 3.01L. I keep close checks on engine fluids, other basic stuff and am a easy driver with no young people in household. Any good suggestions, ideas, experience would greatly help.

Well it can still be a lot of things...

Just for example~ the One of or more engine mounts has failed, old worn rubber migh have the weight of the engine directly on the metal mount, causing more Rough idle (no isolation)

Or it could mean time to check the timming, tune up, fuel system all of these might need a good freshing to help restore the operation of the engine...

    best wishes!

i had an aerostar, was not a good experience. timing ,distributor , basic tune up of plugs wires distributor cap and rotor button may help. personaly i'd say sell it while it still runs or trade it in .mine cost about 50 dollars a mile to drive when break downs and all were added up

YOU SHOULD GET THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SCANNED AND CHECK FOR ANY PROBLEMS AS WELL AS CODES AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD IDEA ON WHAT THE PROBLEM TRULY IS.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

LEAVE IT THERE WITH THEM SO THAT THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM FOR YOU, IT WILL BE A LOT BETTER THAN JUST REPLACING PART AFTER PART AND NOT DOING ANY GOOD.

you may find something in the mass air flow sensor, the last aerobus i saw that acted like this i found a piece of corn silk laying on the wires in the mass airflow sensor, these 2 wires heat up, the airflows over them cooling them off where the computer gets a resistance reading i would take it apart a little to see if its clean

Aerostars have been the worst vans Ford had ever made

the most likely causes are leaky/dirty injectors, leaking fuel pressure regulator or a vacuum leak.

i think you need fuel injection service and your egr valve cleaned out.
