I think there needs to be even better technology than hybrids. It is still using fossil fuels. To some degree there is fossil fuels used in the making of everything we buy that is manufactured. I think we should have longer running purely electric cars that are charged by a natural energy such as solar or wind power stations that the cars will plug into. The station could be at hotels and at your homes. To me that's what the politicians should be working on. High Speed bullet trains that run off of magnets would be nice as well running between large citys. I feel like we are years behind other countrys on this.

I am all for hybrid use... don't get me wrong. I do think that riding in a bio-diesel bus may be a better alternative since they tend to go long miles between stops. Hybrid useage is optimized better when used in city travel.

The under-lying point of your question may actually be the lack of emphasis shown by our politicians to be better stewards of our natural resources.

Living in Nashville, TN (close to Carthage - home of Al Gore, Jr.), I have heard over and over how Al Gore should practice what he preaches. Well, he is doing something about it. People have pointed out his electrical consumption from his house. Well, does anyone take time to research the fact that he opted to use GREEN POWER which is an option available through our local power provider.

He has also put in geo-thermal piping to further reduce his dependence on electricity. Some people do not realize that his home is quite old and in a historic-district. You are limited to what you can do with regard to home improvement, but that hasn't stopped him from using CFL's, daylighting, etc.

Truth is that he runs a business from his home and it involves having a staff there. So yes, your usage is going to spike and be pretty high, esp since his popularity has soared. Instead of just demolishing the historic house (wasteful), he's trying to retrofit and make adjustments given its situation.

As for the person who answered earlier about Gore using a plane to travel. C'mon man... how else do you propose he get across the oceans? Video conferencing may be an alternative, but cut the man some slack for wanting to do what is right.

I agree with you, but I never thought about that and that's a good question as well. I t would save fuel in their massive motor pool, they need to produce a hybrid motor cycle. Most of all the jets, I think planes do just as much polution as the cars and trucks on the ground. They should make all city and state vechicals hybrids of some sort .

It is cheaper for many to go in a bus than to have many cars take the entourage.

Emissions reductions is a clever diversion for politicians wth no solutions to so many problems they have caused through the narow sighted narrow world vision sorry to offend but I do not think Australian politicians are very bright they avoid debates they avoid public scrutiny they personally attack any one who is an intellectual threat its about power and wealth for them. I have never heard so much nonsense in my life as I have heard from these politicians the sorry part about it is there is no one to vote for any more
