1993 chevy caviler?

hello, a 93 chevy caviler fails to stay running unless the key is held in the (start) position... any thoughts on what the issue may be to fix? thanks!

    it depends on how your ignition cylinder(where your key goes) Does it feel loose when the key is in?If so replace the key cylinder.If not it sounds like the ignition switch is going bad.It is mounted on the column operated by a small rod i do believe.You would probably have to remove the lower dash panel to get to it.

    It sounds as though the wiring coming off of the ignition switch that is low on the column has been altered.Check and correct if necessary.Some one may have pulled the prongs and then put them in the wrong slot in the plug in part.

    I would Replace the Ignition, but that First Answer may be Correct!! It shouldn't cast much more than $500 to Replace it.

    Replace the key switch. Not the thing you put the key in but the switch. It is mounted on the column .

    replace the ignition switch first off (not the key switch ---dons is a dime a dozen shop i guess)

    the voltage regulator is most likely built into the alternator

    you need a new lock cylinder
