Can or do vanilla beans go bad?

I bought 100 vanilla beans for a very low price. How can I store them? Will they keep indefinately?

    I've heard of people putting vanilla beans in sugar, which is a nice way to flavor the sugar, too, but that's a lot 'o beans.
