    Grape Decor For Kitchen

  • 1 decade ago

I'm sorry I don't have photos to show you, we moved, but here is what I did....

I found some very cool ivy/grape vine border and put it on my ceiling! It was such a departure from the tired, boring border at the top of the wall! And it was very easy to do!

I then found a striped wallpaper I liked and wallpapered just the soffet above my kitchen cabinets.

I had plain, beige tile on the back of my counter and found some very neat grape decals and decaled some of the tiles.

In my kitchen eating area, instead of just a wainscoating molding, I found another border that I liked with a rose' color in it and put that on my wall at chair rail heighth. Then my husband nailed on a small molding at the top and bottom of the border that was painted about 4 shaded deeper than the walls. It was awesome!!

I used grapevine from Joann's fabric and wet it and stretched it and draped it over a curtain rod that I painted med. brown so that the rod wouldn't stand out. Then I hot glued grape leaves and clusters of grapes that I bought, spray glued and dipped into a coppery glitter. I had mini blinds already so I really didn't need anything "heavy" for the windows. The blinds were the same color as the walls.

For decor I made a wreath of wine corks that I hot glued onto a foam wreath form and added grape leaves and a filmy ribbon woven throughout.

Finished the decor with a large collage of wine bottle labels (I had friends save them for me!) and loved the look! It was easy. Soak off the labels and press them between paper towels and the phone book (no one ever really uses them anymore anyway so I wasn't concerned about any moisture bleeding onto the pages and smearing the print). I bought a large frame from a garage sale and ditched the picture, kept the glass, and pasted the labels onto poster board. I then bought some foam core (heavier) from Joann's and sandwiched the labels under the glass with the foam core for stablity and thickness. I nailed some picture frame brads to keep everything in place and then hung it like a regular picture.

I found some very nice kitchen dish towels and dish cloths and hot pads and voila'!!!

I added a counter wine rack (I think I found it at Linens N More) and on my sideboard I had a wine print runner and a silver tray with pillar candles and clusters of the glittery grapes. I also added some small gold, christmas glass ornaments (top side hidden) to a very large glass vase and placed that on my table...

Hope this gives you a starting place!!

You have a few options to incorporate a theme into a room. One is with color, like deep wine-colored paint on the wall. Another is with art, such as images of vineyards in a style that fits your room, (e.g., minimalistic black and white photos framed in silver or maple for a contemporary kitchen).

Finally, objects and furnishings, including chair cushions, urns, wine racks that convey the theme.

Check out the following resources online:

wallwords.com lets you choose from interesting sayings. The kitchen section has several concerning wine. Words are a nice contemporary way to share your passion.

napastyle.com has some beautiful wine-related accessories, including wine storage.

ballarddesigns.com has some wine plaques, including ones you can personalize.

Remember, though, a little theme goes a long way!

An overkill of a theme is tacky, borders should be outlawed!

How many times do we really need to see grapes and wine, and Ivy? Too much repetition.

I hope you find a look that makes you happy, this was just my opinion.
