Assuming this is 3/8 - (1/4)t = (1/2)t - 3/4, and not 3/8 - 1/(4t) = 1/(2t) - 3/4, then multiply both sides by 8 to get rid of the fractions. Multiplying both sides by 8 gives 3 - 2t = 4t - 6. Then combine like terms and solve for t.

first thing you want to do is simplify the right side of the equation. So you have to change the 1/2 so it has a 4 for the denominator. You would get 2/4. SO then 3/8-1/4t=2/4t-3/4t. 3/8-1/4t=-1/4t so then the two negative 1/4 cancel and you're left with 3/8=0. That can never be true so it's no solution.

First group the like terms
3/8 + 3/4 = 1/2t + 1/4t
9/8 = 3/4t
9/8 x 4/3 = t
3/2 = t
substitute to see if it is correct
3/8 - 1/4 (3/2)
3/8 - 3/8 = 0 for left hand side
1/2(3/2) - 3/4
3/4 - 3/4 = 0 for right hand side
therefore t = 3/2 is correct because left side equals right side

3/8 - 1/4t = 1/2t - 3/4t
3/8 - 1/4t = -1/4t
+ 1/4t +1/4t
3/8 = 0
I'd call that No Solution...That's what our teacher told us to call it today.
