    1/2x +1/6 = 1/3x............Multiply through by x:

    1/2 + x/6 = 1/3...............Multiply through by 6:

    3 + x = 2.........................Take 2 from each side:

    1 + x = 0.........................Take 1 from each side:

    x = -1.

    Hope this helps, Twiggy.

    1/2x+6 =1/3x

    multiply both sides by 2 and get

    2/2x+12 = 2/3x...simplify and get x +12 = 2/3x

    multiply both sides by 3 and get

    3x +36 = 2x... subtract 2x from both sides...

    x + 36 =0...subtract 36 from both sides and get x = -36

    proof: substitute -36 for x and rewrite...

    -36/2 +6 = -36/3... solve... -18 +6 = -12.....-12 = -12
