How big is an area 18.5 square feet in ft by ft?
I was looking at a play yard that is 18.5 square feet but I want to know how much room will that take up in my living room? If it said 5 ft by 5 ft for example then I could understand. Please help. Thanks

Well think of it this way. 5 ft by 5 ft is 25 square feet. The dimensions are just multiplied. 18.5 would be something like 4.25 by 4.25 or 3 by 6. Those aren't exact, but it could be anything that equals 18.5 when multipled. The square root of 18.5 is 4.3.

Smile,,, it's like doing reverse math. In your case you already know that 5 x 5 is 25 sq. ft.
Since you give a specific example you can assume that an answer like 1 ft x 18.5 feet is possible, but not applicable.
Consider the size of a usual play pen.

As others have pointed out, if it is a SQUARE area, it is 4.301162635 ft on each side (4ft 3.613inch).
Otherwise, there are theoretically any NUMBER of results... since the area is calculated for a rectangle as length x width.
It COULD be 18.5ft x 1ft (obviously NOT likely since it's a "Play Pen".

SQ feet is ft x ft so it could be a number of things but if it is a perfect square then it would be 4.3 FT x 4.3FT, if it is rectangular it could vary for example 6.16ft x 3ft

If it is square it will be right about 4'4" sqaure(4.3X4.3=18.49sqft).
If you are uncertain of dimensions it could also be like 3'X6'=18sqft

i'm afraid no one can answer you that. why? the variables are infinite. for example, 16 square feet could have many variable dimensions that could equal to the same amount of area, like 4x4, 2x8, 3.2x5, 2.6x6, etc. it could go on forever.. and they all equal 16sq.feet. it's better to ask the manufacturer of the salesperson himself.

The dimensions are 4.3X4.3 which is 18.49 sq ft.which is as close as it gets. This translates to about 4ft 4in X 4ft 4in.
