typically the ABS light ( the amber one) comes on after start up then goes off. if it stays on there is a fault in your anti-lock brakes. the most common failure is a speed sensor, this is the sensor at each wheel that tells the computer how fast the wheel is rotating. it is the most important sensor with the hardest job due to the amount of heat it has to indure. the more common ones on your car are the front two. you can go to a shop and have them tell you which sensor is bad. another common problem on these are the tone rings tend to crack. these are the toothed ring that the sensor sits above. most likely it is a sensor.

Hi there.... I have a sable 1994... couple of questions... have you had a tire replaced recently. ? Has any other light started to come on ... like the seat belt light...
Ok.. do this first.... disconect the battery wait 10 mins then reconnect.. check see if its still on ...
If it is check tfor any loose wire near your tires.... also there is a second brake fluid res below the battery check to make sure the wire is still on there too....
Lastly .... take it to auto zone and get codes read ///
It will tell you if there is a fault with the abs...

ABS means anti-lock brake system. often then not its the abs pump under the hood that useally goes out. chech the brack fluids there should be a smaller container around your main brake fluid container, if fluid is reasonably full then need to have auto tech to check abs pump.
I Wonder if you had your brakes worked on recently and replaced your brake rotors?

check brake fluid level.
check abs wiring for a loose connection
take it to a brake shop and inspect the sensors

I don't know.....check your abs?
I had a Pontiac Firebird whose abs light came on first whenever the alternator was about to go out--the system automatically cut power to them to reserve for more critical functions.

First check the fluid, then clean all the ABS cable ends with break cleaner that should do it sometimes they get dirty and can not read the signal, clean and fill. hope this helps.

You should check to see if your brake fluid is low. If it is, fill your resevoir (that should make the light go off.) If it is low one of your brake lines may have a crack and should be replaced.
