Light orange color spots on towels and clothing after washing.?
I do not know what is causing this. It seems that most of my towels are ending up with orangish spots (some the size of a half dollar, some smaller) when i get them out of the wash. I am not washing them with orange colored clothing or anything either. Sometimes it happens to brand new towels and sometimes the towel has been washed a few times and then suddenly, after a wash it comes up with these spots.
Does anyone know what these are and how to get rid of them? I am so sick of buying pretty towels and them being ruined by these orange spots. And it is odd, not all towels get them either. I thought I had this prob with towels only, but I got a shirt out of my washer one time and it too had some small orange dots on it.
I would appreciate the help. Is this caused by hard water or something?
I do not have a filter for my water going to my washing machine. I live in an apartment, and washer and dryer is provided. I have lived here for over 1.5 yrs and have never used bleach.

The orange spots are caused by rust.
Check the tub of your washer. If it's chipped, there may be rust forming. If you see this, you could give it a few coats of fingernail gloss (clear).
You may need a new washer if it gets really bad----one with a STAINLESS STEEL tub.
I sincerely hope this helps.

I just googled "orange spots on towels" and was amazed at how many people are experiencing this. It seems that towels are the primary article of clothing, but there were others mentioned. I just wonder if it is something in the dye colors of towels or maybe something the manufacturer is doing that creates the problem. Certainly not everyone can have a rusting washing machine, and a lot of people say they don't use bleach. This may truly remain a mystery.

If you're noticing random discolored spots on towels and some bedding, then it could be a bleached out area.
Do you use any cleanser that contains benzoyl peroxide? Proactiv contains that stuff, as does any other anti-acne treatment. I discontinued using Proactiv after I ruined a whole set of towels, then it dawned on me.
Unfortunately, there's no way to bring the color back into a towel that has been bleached of color. If you continue to use the products that are bleaching the towel, then switch to white towels for washing your face, and it wouldn't hurt to rinse your face twice as well!

Sounds like rust, or iron. I'd experiment with an item you don't mind being ruined. If it's all light colored items that keep getting ruined I'd bet it was iron. The filter thing may be the route to take.
