Yes we ARE letting them off too easy.

Microsoft claimed that 3% of systems were faulty. That is only 1 out of 33 systems. However a few months passed, and it turns out it is costing Microsoft 1 BILLION dollars(1,000 Million) to fix the problem) which has effected 33% of the systems!

1 out of 3 breaking is not acceptable.

Microsoft should be offering full cash back refunds to anyone who wishes to send in their system, and also games.

I spent $427 or so on a system that started freezing after the first fall update. Every game freezes. No red ring, but CONSTANT freezing. Trying o return iot has been hell. I just want my money back now, the problems have taken all fun out of gaming.

I want my $427 back, the $50 for the best buy warranty they wont honor, the $40 for the second control, and the $300 for the 6 games.

Send be a coffin to drop all the trash in....I WANT MY MONEY BACK....

What really makes me sad is the LOW failure rates of the PS3.

Yes, Microsoft is being let off way too easy. The only reason why they extended the warranty and started refunding money was that so many reports were becoming public through mainstream media outlets that they had to.

If they hadn't done it, they would have certainly faced class action lawsuits, in fact, there were several forums that had postings about getting a class action together just days before the announcement.

I'm glad I don't own one, I'd have been frustrated long before now. Not just for the 'Red Rings of Death' but also the disc scratching fiasco, and other issues that seem to plague the system.

The only thing that people look at though, does it have good games? Yes it does, and to some that's all that it matters. It's a real shame that it had to come to threats of class-action suits before Microsoft started doing anything about it.

I sometimes think that maybe the consumers would have been better off with the class-action lawsuit instead of the lengthing of the warranty for this particular issue.

Before getting myself a new console I went through tons of internet pages and other stuff. I own PS3 for some time.

    Here is why:

Almost a third of XBOX 360 are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 3%.

    Let's compare them

PS3 has 7+1 kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3x2

PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 50 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual DVD (9.5 gb).

    Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second

    Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second

PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in card reader (except 20 gb version), ability to use printer and so on.

Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.

PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers

    Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers

    PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)

    Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $

Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of doom" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 8 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it.

Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).

When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.

In 2008 we'll get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4 and other great exclusives.

PS3 online world will be free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.

In some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".

The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console.

Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years.

I didn't mention Wii, because it's so weak, no point to talk about it.

Here is the great link to the future PS3 releases. http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html...

If we are letting them off easy then that would also mean that we are letting other systems off easy too like the PS3. Whoever told that you the PS3 was built better and not having problems lied to you. In the beginning Sony had the same problems as Microsoft with over heating, who do you think they weren't selling it wasn't just the price.

I personally don't think we are letting them off to easy because they are putting top of the line hardware out every couple of years so you have to expect some problems and at least they extended the warranty so everyone wouldnt be screwed if the 3 rings happened to them.

I have both, and prefer my PS3 much more. The only thing the 360 has are a few good exclusive games, and the controller (if you even like it at all, which I don't more than I do). The PS3 has just as many good exclusives as well as all the multi-console games, a familiar and convenient controller (at least for me), free internet with an upgraded version being a possibility, and a few internal/hardware goodies and pluses.
