Joining Marines?!?!?
Anyone in the Marines, or anyone just in general, give me at least 5 or a few good reasons not to join the Marines?

It's tough, requires self discipline. You don't sleep much, work long hours, Liberals hate you, your dress uniforms cost a lot. They don't put up with lazy f**k ups, whiners, wimps, momma's boys (or girls). You have to stay in shape, you get yelled at, you have to learn to kill with hands and weapons.
You are always out in the rain, snow, heat, cold. You will be eaten by every conceivable bug and some you never conceived of.
You will run obstacle courses designed by sadists, with their children training you.
You will spend long periods away from home. They don't care. The mission comes first. It is full on malcontents, psychos, lunatics, nut-jobs and wild men. When they drink enough, they will scr*w mud.
They are atheists, Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, Mormons, Baptists, Methodists, Hindu, Pagan.
You would serve with some of the filthiest mouthed, immoral, fowl tempered, quick to fight, deranged individuals you could ever imagine. They are cocky, egotistical and maniacal. They run around, acting like Rambo on speed. They bi*ch, moan, complain and are for the most part extremely disagreeable individuals. They all, to the last Marine, have a sick and twisted sense of humor that only really gets funny when bloodshed is involved.
Their love and commitment to each other and the Corps is absolute. Their battles legendary.
They are, without a doubt, the finest people you will ever have the privilege to know.

I have great respect for the Marines because they have a tough job that I am not willing to do (and probably couldn't do anyway). Having said that, however, here are some reasons against joining the Marines:
1. Their basic training is longer than any other branch of the service (13 weeks) and is much more physically grueling than any other branch of the service.
2. Marines do field training approximately 25 days out of every month, which includes living in the field, so it makes it very difficult to have a family if you're married or a social life if you're single.
3. There are very few jobs you can get in the Marines that would translate into a decent-paying job in the civilian sector.
4. You probably would not have an opportunity to take college courses while you're in the Marines, as you can in other branches of the service.
5. Your chances of getting deployed to a garden spot like Iraq or Afghanistan are about 100%.
If you're thinking about joining the military, talk to an Air Force recruiter. I could give you hundreds of reasons why the Air Force is the way to go, but I'll sum it up in the words of my colleagues in the Army, the Navy, the Marines, and the Coast Guard: "MAN, I wish I had joined the Air Force!"

I personally spent 8 months on Parris Island. I got 4 stress fractures: I broke my pelvis in 3 places and my left femur.
You have to train as tough as the boys but the girls don't get the nutrition the boys get. The male recruits got to go back for glass after glass of milk whereas we girls were lucky to have one glass a day. You don't get calcium pills til you break a bone. If you're in fantastic strength, like a soccer player or triathlete, you'll have no problem physically.
The food gets old fast, just like being yelled at.
Watch the Discovery channel videos on Marine Corps boot camp, read about the Crucible.
If after that you still wanna go, I want U to go.
It's an experience like no other. You'll see how it's not always the best and brightest but the ones who want it and the ones that have no other place to go that get the Eagle, Globe, & Anchor on their lapels.
Look into other branches which all have shorter boot camps & which all can pay for college. If you just want to serve the country look into working at the USO or any other civillian positions you can find.
Don't talk to recruiters-they are the worst of the worst. We are just #s to them. I met mine & a week later was on the Island. He never wrote when I needed a clue/encouragement.
Go to the recruiter when you know the branch you want to be in. ASK ABOUT BONUSES! There are times of the year you will get more money, for the Corps it's Winter b/c it's cold on the SC coast and most kids are still in school. Platoons will be smaller so there's more attention, you're not just another recruit (though at times you may want to be).

hmmm?
1) Least career options for Females
2) They deploy alot
3) Helps to be a bit Macho to fit in.
4) If you hate ships or water, Amphibous operations will be a drag.
5) Your not in The Royal Marines ( God save the Queen!)
Other than that, can't think of any others not to join?

I think if it's something you want bad enough you should go for it. Yes, it will be tough and they are the first ones usually into battle but I think it would be very rewarding and personally you'd be doing something I was never able to do. I had a knee problem that kept me out but good luck to you. Be strong, they will try to break you, but that's their job.

I can not give you one better reason than " if you think you can not handle it"

Why NOT to join? Because you can't pass the ASVAB.

The Marines like to kill. Is that the way you would want your kids to be brought up, full of hatred?
