False Advertising?
I have a dliemma. I belong to many Yahoo! groups. A couple of them are featuring someone who "personally" invites people to join their group. The groups are actually fan clubs for the person in question, The implication seems to be that this individual is an active member of their groups. That is not necessarily the case. Someone got really upset with the invidiual who the group is about recently and that has led to a email back and forth between the upset indvidual on one side and the actual subject of the group and the group moderators on the other, neither of whom is the group subject. I really like the subject of the groups-we've communicated via email outside of the Yahoo! group and I don't want to get them in trouble or have them stop liking me, but I'm also not sure that this isn't false advertising. Any help and answers will be appreciated.

The group owner would have to put a stop to this. If the owner allows advertising of groups on his/her group, there's nothing anyone can do about it. A lot of people try to advertise their groups on a lot of other groups but those owners do not allow it. There's really nothing you as a member can do except ignore those particular messages. If the messages are threatening or vulgar, then whoever posted them could be reported to Yahoo.
If you get tired of seeing these messages on the group site, you can remove yourself from those groups and join other groups where that behavior is not allowed. If you get personal emails from those members, you can delete them off of your computer's email program.
