.dll file missing, computer wont start?

Im moving, when i disconnected the pc, it was fine as it has been since ive had it. I put it in my trunk, upright, for 2 days. Just yesterday i hooked it all back up the way it was, now it wont boot due to some missing .dll file that starts with an H. Thats all i know what the * is wrong. Rule out downloadable viruses for the fact the computer hasnt had internet on it for over 3 mos.

Update:

now that you all mention it, i think it is a hal.dll Ive tried using my recovery disc, (which it wouldnt boot from) and the OS disc. I tried to do the Recovery Console and it did nothing but reboot my computer. I also tried to "install" windows again and there was no REPAIR option available. I could wipe it all out, but thats what im trying to avoid at all costs. Thanks everyone...

Well, just telling us it has a DLL error without listing the missing DLL file doesn't do us any good.

It is probably Hal.dll but that is just a guess. If so, then you would be best off running a windows repair.

    Follow these directions:

    ***EDIT***

Follow the directions on the link I provided to be able to do a Repair install with windows. The link has important details on how to do it correctly.

Get your windows installation cd and put it in the cd-rom drive Boot to the cd If your computer is not set to boot to cd you will have to go into the computer BIOS and change the booting sequence. Do not change anything else. If you do not know how to go into BIOS (look for F key message during startup) or contact a tech. When windows startup begins you will choose REPAIR. Do not format. If repair doesn't work you may have to try a reinstalation which will overlay windows (as long as you do not format your docs hould be OK).. last resort is reformatting. If you must do this you should contact a data recovery person / company first if you have docs and things you cannot replace. Good Luck.

Try to start your computer in "Safe Mode", hold down F8 while the computer is booting.

Once you are in safe mode go to accessories and do a system restore on your system. This may help you get it booted.

Once you have it running go to Microsoft.com and scan it to see if you can find a patch that may be missing.

    Good luck

the file is probably called hall.dll

you'll have to dowload this file from the following website and reinstall it back into your system...

there are no guarantees that this will work, b/c sometimes the file gets fixed, and when you reboot, you find out that theres another file missing... and on an on you go fixing file after file on a rabbit chase..
