WHY do people pretend "most scientists think GW is due to the Sun?"?

This opinion seems entirely biased.

What are the names of these scientists ? I personally can only think of one single Russian climate scientist.

Is one guy the majority of climate scientists ?

Update:

I mean "change in the solar radiation"

I think this myth like many others related to global warming originates from the Swindle. The lone alternative explanation the Swindle provides for the warming is that the Sun is responsible. The film provides virtually no evidence, but does cite one rather poor scientific study whose data conveniently stops at 1980 as proof.

Perhaps the Swindle has swindled its viewers into thinking that a significant number of scientists support this theory.

Usually the explanations I hear from AGW doubters are either that climate scientists are wrong or that they think 'natural causes' are to blame. I dont' think too many believe that the majority of scientists blame the Sun.

And obviously the majority of scientists don't, because all scientific evidence shows that the Sun has been a very minor contributor to the warming over the past 30 years.

*edit* I see Mr Jello was the source of this misinformation you refer to. That's not surprising, as Mr Jello regularly invents whatever information he thinks is necessary to defend his indefensible arguments.

Because it's a good argument to use when people know nothing about science. The Sun is very hot. It makes days hotter than nights, etc. Variations in the Sun have caused climate changes in the past.

And, in a weird way, there's a certain truth to it. Global warming is powered by the Sun, even though it's increasing CO2 holding in more heat from the Sun, that's the main cause, not changes in the Sun.

Changes in the Sun are not causing global warming. Solar radiation is decreasing a bit these days.

Then there's a few weird arguments like sunspots, even though sunspots don't increase solar radiation significantly.

It's a FUD argument. Fear, uncertainty and doubt.

For the record, here are three refutations from scientists:

    http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=171

    http://solar-center.stanford.edu/sun-on-earth/FAQ2...

and one good article from the media (not the "liberal" media, either):

"While evidence suggests fluctuations in solar activity can affect climate on Earth, and that it has done so in the past, the majority of climate scientists and astrophysicists agree that the sun is not to blame for the current and historically sudden uptick in global temperatures on Earth, which seems to be mostly a mess created by our own species."

Well... Global warming IS due to the sun! If there were no sun, it would be mighty cold. Durrrr.

On a cautionary note: Science not a democracy. It is not a consensus. It is a dictatorship of the facts. Weighing a hundred vocal scientists against a single grain of fact is tips in favor of the fact. Of course, in the short term, much like the stock market, science is a voting box, not a weighing machine.

    Also:

1- The climate is one of the most complex systems in existence. Probably more so than living organisms, because it contains them too. We mortals can only guess at whats happening.

2- In line with number one: There is NO CONTROL!!! In any of the climate studies! You can see trends, but confounding variables about! Its like predicting hurricanes without paying attention to the butterfly! We cannot control the studies, therefore they are all flawed.

2- You find what you look for. The truth is out there, but perhaps we are all looking under the wrong rock.

it's easier to stick your head in the sand and side with 'scientists' hired by the big oil/energy companies, than to accept the truth.

There is actually a very good case for solar radiation and sun spots causing the rise in temperature.

The reason why they think that is due to their own ignorance on the subject.

  • 1 decade ago

because the suns hot and they think the suns rays are making the world's earth get hot....etc

It is simply easier to believe that then to admit that they have to do something about it!

Probably because it is. Where do you think all the heat on our planet comes from, your stove?
