Under what circumstances are devout Muslims permitted to compromise on their religious values and rules?

Judaism also used to practise execution by stoning, and rules for when and how it should be applied are defined in the Torah, which religious Jews believe to be the words of God. But over the years rabbis decided that it should not be applied any more, even though it is prescribed in our holiest texts.

What has to happen for Islam to decide to reject such ancient barbaric practices, in favour of ones more suited to our times?

And on a similar note, under what circumstances could devout Muslims accept to relinquish land that is holy 'waqf'? Judaism views Mount Sinai as exceptionally holy (it's where God gave Moses the Torah), but we still handed over the whole of Sinai in the interests of peace. What could be done to allow fervently religious Muslims such as Hamas to do something similar, without feeling that they are abandoning their religion?

(Note: I'll be out all today, so I can only respond to answers later. But I feel that this question goes to the root of the issue.)

Not all Muslim countries practice stoning and today lots of muslim countries are quite modern although still there are a great many places like Iran and Saudi Arabia for instance.

I don't know what you mean by holy waq? What do you mean under what circumstances should muslims give up holy waq?

Are you talking about eventually Egypt giving over the Sinai to Israel or soemthing?

but to answer you'r question atleast as i see it is to allow fervently relegious groups like hamas to do soemthing similar is to go after the roots of fanaticm first.

Which is instabillity and extreme poverty which are present in Gaza.

The poorer people get the closer they get to relegion and soemtimes other things come into the equation...

So if you or someone else as you are away could explain to me what you mean by Holy Waqf and releginquishing land? i could expand abit on my answer.

In any religion there are values taught by the holy books. If someone works hard to adhere to all the values of their religion, then they are a devoted follower of that religion. Someone who disregards some of the teachings, and makes no effort to get right with their God, is not devout by definition.

The issue then becomes various different interpretations of the holy words. Just as in Christianity there are the Catholics, Baptists, Lutherans, etc. with differing interpretations of what the rules are, so it is in Islam.

Mohammed came among humans much later than Jesus Christ, so Christianity has evolved more than Islam, in redefining what God's law really means.

There is territory that is sacred to Jews, and Christians, and Muslims. Probably the best for humanity would be to set off a nuclear explosion there, so the territory no longer something anyone want to fight over, let alone able to fight over. The sacred places would then be for God and Evil to use exclusively, humans stay out.

Land which is 'waqf' means holy land which Muslims are not allowed to surrender. I don't think Londoner in Israel is asking for the Sinai back - I think he is asking how Hamas could be persuaded to recognise the existence of Israel despite the fact that they view the whole of the land of Palestine as unsurrenderable holy land.

8:12 in the koran tells muslims to chop off the heads of "infidels". All non-muslims are "infidels" according to islam. In 8:12, allah supposedly brags about his ability to be a terrorist. According to islamic law, the world is divided into 2 "houses", the house of islam and the house of war. Muslims are to do all they can to expand the house of islam, and when land is viewed as being included in the house of islam it is never to be relinquished.

Islam is more a political system with the goal of world domination than a real religion. The only way they will relinquish what they have won in battle is by being forced out through the use of superior force or to temporarily fool their opponents into thinking islam is peaceful. Then when they feel themselves strong enough to attack, the attack comes with the goal of taking back far more than was given. Read the koran and you will clearly see this for yourself. The civilized world must be vigilant and stay prepared to guard against the islamofascist threat posed by devout muslims who follow the violent orders given in the koran.

Wake up and smell the jihad.

No doubt religion plays a role and the Aqsa mosque is the third holiest place in Islam, but the issue is not just that.

That is their homeland too, which they were thrown out of. That is also what they're fighting for.

Islam was a religion conceived in blood and forged in countless bloody conflicts to keep power.
