    They both suck.

I wouldn't EVER buy a turtle at either one!

Boo PetCo. If they did carry turtles, they would be sick or dead. That's how PetCo does things.

I've never seen PetSmart carry turtles, but they take decent care of their animals, especially for a large pet chain. If you do find some at PetSmart I'd still check them out to make sure they're safe.

I used to rescue hurt box turtles that had been hit by cars when I was a kid, so I've got a soft spot for them.

    Hurray for Turtles!

I've never looked into it, or heard of it. HOWEVER, I do NOT call all PetSmart and PetCo foods crap. PetSmart carries Blue Buffalo, a very good quality dog food, and one I use to feed before switching to raw. And they carry Eukanuba's new wild line, I forget what it is called. Very expensive, but from the ingredients listed it is also a premium quality dog food, one that I would consider feeding IF I few dry kibble. Purina One? HA... that is thrown down their junk aisle along with Iams and Beneful. And PetCo sells Diamond, another really good dog food. I would be interested to see what brands this "unleashed" store carries before judging. They mention organic, hollistic, and raw foods. Prepackaged raw diets specifically designed for dogs are CRAP. They are OVERPRICED, usually full of supplements, and just plain crap. I'll go to the store and buy a whole chicken, thank you very much.

I don't know about Petco but I bought a turtle and a lizard from Petsmart and they were both sick, somebody told me about reptile auction and I got my turtles and lizards from there. I just have never had good luck at petsmart.

petco does sell turtles. Red eared sliders mostly. I used to work there, Petsmart is usually cheaper though, it depends from town to town though.

@Petco I Know you can save money by buy food items and trying them for your turtle and if it does'nt like it, you can return it even when it's opened already but it has to be 3 quarters of it's packaging. Petco 4 turtles.

Please consider not using price as the main criterion for your choice. Chain pet stores are not generally good places to obtain healthy, long-lived pets.

No matter where you get your turtle, try googling for "care sheets" on its species so you can give it the best chance for a long, healthy life. And make sure there is a vet near you who knows how to take care of turtles.

I think petsmart sells them cheaper, but i could be wrong, I think it depends on what type and where their origin is that they come from

Almost eveything is cheaper at petsmart they take better care of thier animals too.

Source(s): Ive worked for both stores.
