Royal Mail 48hr strikes.5/6.10 and 8/9.10.?
RM is proposing that all postal workers lose the pensions they have been paying into.Postal workers don't want to strike but have no other way of bringing issues to the public's notice. Make sure you post by Tuesday afternoon!
Jenny O - when most of the staff joined RM they were under the impression that the money paid into the pension fund would be safe! we do not want to strike but the cwu and rm are giving us very little information! if it were up to us we would sort it all out pretty quick to reduce disruption to deliveries etc.
apparently the cwu and rm were in talks last night, and due to meet again today, hopefully strike action can be averted but if no agreement reached today then there is nothing for it but to strike because if we wait till next year then there will be 40,00 less of us in rm.

I fully support them and am prepared to put up with slight inconvenience if it means they do not get shafted by royal mail
EDIT ..if you have mail to send send it special as they are honouring those deliveries and i am at the end of purchasing a house and am due to exchange contracts that week ..but i can wait as i support our posties ..
Mine is fantastic .. never complains about the amount of mail i get and is a cheerful man ...
We need to support these people and not moan about not getting our mail ...
We do not have to support our families on royal mail pay

I´m against strike action at any time because it´s a lose lose situation for everyone. The staff, the company and the customers. Having said that, I fully support the postal staff with their problems. Over the past ten years or more the working conditions of postal workers has been eroded. The vast majority of the public have no idea this has been going on. The perception of a postman´s job is it´s a cushy number walking round the streets sticking letters through the door. All delivery staff start work when most people are still in bed. Most people still consider it the middle of the night. I wonder how many would like to get up every morning at 4am. Great in the summer, but they still have to do it in the freezing cold of a dark winters morning. I take my hat off to them all. Then you have other staff working late shift or nightshift. There was a time they got allowances for working unsocial hours but management in their search to cut costs have eroded that.
Someone else on here said if they don´t like it they can leave and get another job. That´s wonderful. If every experienced postman left then you would have an inexperienced work force. They´d soon complain then if things didn´t work to time. I hope sense rules the day for all concerned.

I am in full support of this, its disgusting that anyone should have the right to take away a pension that has been paid into for any length of time. If it was a bank it would be called robbery.
as for bert the burke..... least said - obviously has no conception of the work that goes into delivering the mail. and what on earth makes you think that by using private companies the delivery would get any better?
At work we changed to couriers because they offered a better deal but after 6mths went back to RM gladly just to be sure the post was delivered....

Lily, Your question is more of a statement.
But the Public should &need to be enlightened as to the Complete Truth.
Dr Watson. Yes it is true about postal workers having their
pension rights revoked.
Jenny O. I don't think you understand, RM are trying to change
pension conditions, without prior consultation with CWU.
New ways of working, changes in conditions, & timing
without proper forethought, non-consultation with employees,
& Union, will only add to the already existing Chaos, & havoc for the customers.
This is the Real Reasoning behind the strike.action.
It is believe me the Last Resort , but necessity for survival.
Leighton & Crozier have been sent in to axe & break up the Royal Mail, ready for sell-off.....!.......FACT

There is enough problems getting letters through without strike action . Surely there is a different way to sort this out. People won't be keen to use Royal mail especially businesses so surely they are doing themselves more damage? I tend to pay my bills over the Internet or phone whereas before i would have paid by cheque but letters are not getting delivered efficiently anyway.

I'm against any strike. Especially if it inconveniences members of the public in any way. When they started working they knew the conditions of employment and if they aren't happy with it get another job. They have a responsibility to the public to do the job they are being paid for. As a footnote they don't do the job very well anyway, I keep getting letters for my neighbours and they in turn get mine.

Sorry, I'd need to see a link. They are striking over pay as far as I know nothing about loosing pensions they've paid into - that's illegal so I don't think it's true.

if we all striked then nothing would ever get done.
if you dont like your job then leave.
if you cant get a better one then, dont winge.
be grateful you have a job with a pension because a lot of people work for a lot less.
but thanks for the warning
unfortunately like other people i wont be able to help the fact that if i need something to send or sent i cant get it.

Loose their pensions? if it was up to me I'd sack the lot of them and start to use private companies to deliver the mail.
Maybe then we will get the efficient service that we deserve !
Andrew D, thank you once again for proving that where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise !
