I was removing a pier in central Wisconsin. When I pulled the?

metal pole out of the water, I noticed 30-50 little stick like things hanging on the pole. Upon closer examination, these things were hard, and almost coral like in structure. Does anybody know what these things are?

    Either snail darter eggs or zebra mussels. They are in Lake Michigan, you know.

    My guess would be snail darter eggs
