"You work three jobs? …?

Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that" said Bush to a divorced mother of three.

Does he really just...not get it?

I can't wait to hear the rebuttle that this is all her fault.

Update 2:

One source is listed above. But you can google it as well and it will list many, many sources.

We work harder and are more productive than any other country. Now, a masters degree is required to get ahead.

Our children will have to attain a PhD? That is no easy feat. Education continues to get more expensive because corporations don't want to pay for it. They want people with the degrees as long as they don't have to pay for it. My workplace offers tuition reimbursement but there is a lot of red tape and stipulations. It's not worth it plus they don't want employees to take advantage of it so it seems likely that it would hurt your career. I have seen it happen and it's why I have yet to take advantage of it. I have bills to pay in order to survive. Growing up I believed that I could be whatever I wanted and that is total B.S. It doesn't matter how hard you work or try. Jobs of interest to me and passion have been closed to me. (animal trainer or caretaker or zoologist or dancer or musician or writer or fashion buyer or creative person or pharmacist) I'm willing to work hard and long but it's to no avail. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full-time or take classes during the day and work at night. It's not possible unless I take a huge pay cut. I can't do it. I don't have any children. I married a man with children from a previous marriage. Their mom is a twit. She's excelling because she lies. She's a manipulator. If you are honest and have integrity, strong character then you are cheated in this country. You are not rewarded. I do well at work but I don't like it. It takes my soul from me. My boss is never hear and half asses everything. No one here respects him. He began as a janitor. He's all about himself. He makes his reports slaves. He's living in luxury and from what I can see, he hasn't earned it. It's just like my husband's ex who makes $35 an hour without a degree but she lies well. The salespeople I met in California lie well and excel. If they played by the rules or did what's right (acted ethically and morally) then they would be like everyone else. They have great things but live empty lives because they are so selfish and self centered. They measure success by what they possess. It has nothing to do with what exists in their mind. It has nothing to do with anything but the creation of wealth/money. Corporations exist to make money. I think at one time corporations had a larger purpose. They made money as a result of their purpose. That is no longer the case. We live in a very sad and twisted world. It makes me sick. I don't envy the rich. I despise them because they keep progress down and for what??

I wish I could turn off my brain and act oblivious how others act but I cannot. I will continue to try I suppose though I like doing things. I cannot just sit and watch life crumble. I care about the future generations and about others. I know we can do so much better. I have faith in people.

Doesn't it just make you proud? That's having real familiy values, isn't it? Works three jobs and so cannot be home to raise the children properly. The advanced countries make sure that the parents have paid time off to spend with their newborn through the first year, and subsidize day care, and ensure that ALL full-time jobs pay a living wage, one that is head and shoulders above the US 'poverty line.' Everyone even gets a pension! But this wealthy and productive country just cannot seem to manage it. Meanwhile, billions disappear into Iraq, our industry is gone, and our country goes further and further into debt with a dollar losing value by the day. Maybe the US needs to get another job. Maybe then it would be too busy to make trouble around the neighborhood.

The so-called war on terrorism is not only a war on innocent people in other countries, but it is also a war on the people of the United States: a war on our liberties, a war on our standard of living. The wealth of the country is being stolen from the people and handed over to the superrich. The lives of our young are being stolen. And the thieves are in the White House." Howard Zinn "George Bush and corporate America are intent on eliminating taxes on all capital incomes. Nor do they care if record budget deficits are the result. Many of their more right-wing friends, including those in Congress, actually want larger deficits. They see chronic, record deficits as producing the budget crisis necessary to use as an excuse to privatize Social Security and dismantle what remains of the Roosevelt New Deal programs of the 1930s." Jack Rasmus "We are the only advanced nation without a national system of subsidized health care." Elliott Currie, Crime and Punishment in America "[The Right] lie with impunity. Let's face it. They're liars. They lied about the reason they took our sons and daughters to war. They spend millions of dollars in campaign ads saying they are for a prescription drug benefit under Medicare while they work to destroy Medicare and replace it with private plans and HMOs. They call their dirty air legislation "Clear Skies" and their plan to give the timber companies our trees, "Healthy Forests." They call their job-killing economic program a "jobs program." They say they are for peace when they are for war. Millions of children are left behind under their miserly "No Child Left Behind" education bill. They tout a child tax credit for working families and then silently drop it in favor of more tax cuts for millionaires." Rep. Jan Schakowsky
  • It's unbelievable that he has won two elections. The people who voted for him were either super-rich who don't give a dam about anyone but themselves, ignorant people who vote for people based on who they'd would like to sit down and have a beer with, or rednecks who are clueless to what democracy even means and care only about the NRA.

Sad, and he doesn't get much to do with common people.

I doubt too many of the uber rich do.

I'd like to think he was trying to say he respected her for doing what she had to do, when so many won't do anything at all.

For those who say its her fault and without knowing the details of her circumstances, shame on you.

Many people get outsourced, have spouses who die, start life expecting to be stay at home moms, only to end up with bad men who abuse them or the kids or both.

I think that is uniquely American. I don't know any other country where one has to work 3 jobs in order to support themselves and their family.

No, he just does not get it. How could he? HE was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, had a daddy who gave him every job he ever had (which he failed at every job he ever had) and a daddy to get him out of military service, and a daddy to pull strings to have the Supreme Court hand him the Presidency in 2000 and the Diebold contract which gave him the Presidency in 2004.

How could he possibly understand want? Or need? Or hunger? Or physical ailment? Or being unable to find decent employment or fair wages? Or struggling for an education?

He knows NOTHING about life. Other people have been living it for him since he was born.

I'm a single mother myself and I don't expect the President or anyone else to know exactly what it's like to stand in my shoes. If I need help, I ask for it. But I don't EXPECT it. I figure it out. The resources are there. I'm not a victim; I stand behind my choices and deal with my circumstances.

It IS possible, you know. It's the hardest thing ever, but it IS possible.

It ain't unique to America. At one stage, I only worked two jobs, but one was for 12 hours and one was for 8 hours, not counting travelling time. (U.K. Based)
