Strange noises from front-left axle in 2002 Nissan Spec V?

5 months ago had my front left CV axle and inner tie rod replaced as I had a similar issue then with a cyclic screeching sound when turning right and/or decelerating (not braking). The other day that same screeching sound has returned accompanied by a constant ratcheting sound while the wheels are moving. The screeching sound stops when I apply the brakes but the racheting continues as long as I am moving. Turning either direction doesn't seem to make the noises better or worse as it makes the noises while I'm going straight as well. The noises are loud enough to turn peoples' heads on the street and make them say "what the hell is that sound?" (so it's pretty bad). When looking at the CV boots on the left side both looked fine, though I did notice a bit of oil dripping from what looked like a joint toward the middle of the axle, slightly on the left side of the car. Had all brake pads and rotors replaced 5 months ago as well. What's the problem here? Quite frustrating, only 61k miles.

The noise that goes away when you apply the brakes could be a fouling of the brake rotor by the backing plate on the front. Just bend it out of the way. The clicking sound is a bad CV axle. Nothing else can make that sound. Dripping lube isn't a good sign. Chances are you got a bum rebuilt CV axle - it happens.

Sounds like you received some bad axles. You should check to see if the axles you had replaced earlier have warranty. Some think that it is uncommon to get a bad part. That statement can be no more wrong! I just had my axles replaced 2 weeks ago and it made a screeching noise when I went to turn and my car also shook a lot when accelerating. It was an advantage that the mechanic was a friend of mine so I had it replaced under warranty with another set. We both inspected the parts and we couldn't understand why, clueless for a sec?? But then I drew a line on the axle with some chalk and we went to turn the axles. There it was the axle being turned showed the chalk moving like a cartoon drawing, the axle was very slightly bent. I guess I must have received some bad axles that were in a prior vehicle that was in an accident. Go and get replaced nothing should be leaking and best of luck!

I remember when the IROC was new and sure enough back down from this race. Technology 1,000 pounds lighter and 175 stock hp the Nissan Sentra may just out preform the 194 hp 305 cubic inch Camaro with open differential. Spec V has a limited slip differential and traction Now get that LS-1 crate motor installed with a 6 speed manual hodgekiss differential you can clean the streets with Sentra watching your tail lights pull away.

The shafts (Axles) are called "Short Shafts" and they slide into output on the transaxle and there are seals there that seem to be leaking from what you say, inboard of those seals are bearings that may be going bad. Sounds like the front wheel "Bearings" may be going bad also.
