Can a landlord prevent me from allowing my sister to stay in my apartment for a few months in Wisconsin?
I've got a 2 bedroom apartment lease signed for the year in Wisconsin. On my lease it states, a tenant is "to NOT permit any guest or invites to reside in the Premises without prior written consent of Landlord." I've also read elsewhere that it's illegal for a landlord to prevent immediate family members from residing someplace that I have leased. Are they allowed to increase my monthly charges or anything for my sister living with me for several months at most, or can they deny me outright? Thanks!
8 AnswersRenting & Real Estate9 years agoJust bought a guitar, want some info about it?
Just bought what I believe is a 1999 Fender Stratocaster Plus Hardtail (no tremolo) in black pearl dust color with a black faceplate. Maple top, rosewood fretboard. Active custom EMG pickups. I believe I got a real steal on this. There are a couple of nicks in the body, but nothing more than expected from an instrument that's been played. What's the rarity of this specific model? I haven't seen very many Strat Pluses that are hardtail, much less any Strat. Any Fender experts out there?
3 AnswersOther - Music10 years agoMedical exam for employer-provided life and disability insurance?
According to this, I'll have to have a medical exam for my life/disability insurance plan paid for through my employers. I've never had life insurance before. The only specific test they had me sign papers for was HIV testing, however I suspect this will include nicotine, cholesterol, and drug testing as well.
My question is, will the medical examiner or life insurance company notify my employer of a failed drug test, or any other reason for failing or increased premiums through my medical exam? Any help or info is appreciated, thanks.
5 AnswersInsurance10 years agoMy kitten fell about 20 feet and was initially breathing strangely?
I'm in a 2-story loft apartment and my kittens I recently adopted (about 12 weeks old) were playing upstairs and one must have gotten up on the loft wall and fell, as I just heard a loud thud behind me and saw the kitten lying there and slowly walking away. I don't think he landed on his feet, he might have hit the edge of the counter on the way down and he's pretty weak and uncoordinated still. He was initially breathing strangely, I could hear some kind of popping/crackling sounds and irregular breathing and he would just crawl under the table and lie down, not being sociable as usual. Now the breathing sounds and abnormal breathing seems to have stopped but he coughs once in a while. I'm not sure if the coughing is directly related to the fall as he was coughing occasionally the other day (both cats have been sneezing a bit since moving here, only been here about 5 days and I've heard it's normal for shelter cats to get a cold when initially moving).
I called the emergency vet and explained the situation and he told me he's not too worried, and to just watch him and I can take him in in the morning if I want to. Only thing I was really worried about was a pneumothorax, but don't know. Anyone with experience with cat falls and similar symptoms? Is he just a bit shaken up? If things haven't really improved by morning I'll take him in to the vet during normal hours but can't help but be worried.
3 AnswersCats10 years agoShould I buy a car if the Carfax showed it had ignition coils replaced 8000 miles ago?
Looking to buy a 2006 Audi S4 with about 63,000 miles on it currently. It's a very nice car, and looks pristine. However, when the dealer showed me the Carfax report, I noticed that everything looked good except the ignition coils were replaced at around 55,000 miles. I initially thought this could have been part of an ignition coil recall that affected some Audis, but as I search it appears that recall did not affect this model. Should this be a point of serious concern purchasing this vehicle? What all could have caused the previous owner to get the coils replaced, and could it have resulted in damage to the engine or other components? I had ignition coil issues with a previous vehicle and it was a bit of a nightmare to get the issue properly diagnosed.
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs10 years agoHow to find used auto financing as a first time buyer?
Buying my first car, as my current one I've had for 10 years is just getting to that point where it needs to be traded in or sold before it needs to have a lot of money put into it. I recently got out of grad school and have a job that pays me a very adequate salary to very much afford a decent car (let's say a sticker price of $30,000). The current car I am looking at is a 2006 used car with about 60,000 miles on it, but I have found that I am having trouble getting approved for financing on it, so far being declined by two different banking institutions (one a local credit union and one a larger corporate bank). The reasons I have gotten so far were lack of installment history, as I know I have a good credit score (over 720). Do I just need to look further for financing, or am I pretty doomed to find financing at the price I'm looking for currently?
3 AnswersCredit10 years agoShould I change my state of residence before purchasing a new car?
Recently moved from Michigan to Wisconsin for work, and am about to buy a new car and trade my current one in. I currently am still officially a Michigan resident and have Michigan plates and registration on my car. Is it going to save me a lot of hassle if I change my official state residence before I purchase this new car? This is regarding getting new plates, new registration, new insurance, etc. Does it not really matter either way? Can I transfer my Michigan plates over to my new car bought in Wisconsin for the time being without much hassle?
2 AnswersInsurance & Registration10 years agoEntire computer freezes except for occasional blinking hard drive light?
I have an Asus N81Vg-X1 laptop, with a 2.4 GHz core 2 duo, 4 gb DDR2 RAM, nVidia GT 120M GPU, and a 320gb 7200 rpm HDD. I run Windows 7 professional 64-bit. Almost 2 years old now, pretty flawless for the most part, very pleased with the laptop. Recently though, I've had an issue that is occurring with increasing frequency where my entire computer will lock up, mouse stops moving and all, can't turn caps lock on, etc. The hard drive light, however, will blink sort of rhythmically occasionally. It remains frozen as such until I do a hard restart.
I have Firefox 4, and there may be a correlation between Firefox and the crashes. Sometimes, it will be switching tabs or something, and it kind of seems like it will hesitate, my mouse will kind of jump, then totally freeze. I've been using SpeedFan to check for any overheating, and there's nothing really obvious there. This is a very strange problem to me, and quite annoying. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
6 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoIs it realistic for a woman to hunt with a longbow?
My sister is looking to get a hunting bow (moose hunting in particular), and she seems quite settled on getting a longbow, because they are generally "light". I told her that she probably can't handle the draw weight of a longbow, and she should probably go composite. Are there longbows made with a relatively light draw weight that can bring down a moose? She is about 5'2 and 110 lb, so not exactly a beefy lady either.
7 AnswersHunting1 decade agoWhy do I always feel like I need to stretch part of my back?
For over a decade now (I'm 26) I have on and off had an extreme feeling that comes and goes where I really need to stretch the right side of my middle back. I can only explain it as a feeling of "tightness" in the muscle, and it's always in the same spot only on the right side. This occurs during periods where I've exercised and worked out a lot, and occurs even when I'm in phases where I don't do this often. From doing some research, it seems like it's the longissimus thoracis muscle that is causing this annoying feeling, as it's the muscle right along the spine on the right side.
Stretching relieves this feeling very temporarily, however it always comes back and I feel I need to do it all the time. What is the problem? Is it a knot? I've tried to have it massaged but it doesn't appear to do much, perhaps the massage just did not go deep enough. Any ideas?
1 AnswerPain & Pain Management1 decade agoWhy do Shihtzus lick their own nose so often?
My room mate has a shihtzu that licks its own nose for 5-10 minutes at a time. Its breath is horrendous, can smell it from across the room when she does this. Also, it gets pretty annoying after a while. Why does the dog do this? Is this normal behavior for shihtzus, or is this some sort of habit this dog has formed?
2 AnswersDogs1 decade agoWhat causes a random cylinder misfire code?
My 2002 Nissan Spec V has had intermittent random cylinder misfires for the last 20k miles or so. I realize this is bad, however, when taking the car in, it has never been able to be reproduced in the shop, so they say they can't diagnose the problem. The misfiring typically happens when the car has been sitting for a couple of days or when it's cold. Sometimes I feel like I smell gasoline when the car is just started up when this happens. There is a rough idle and noticeable decrease in engine performance upon throttle delivery.
The problem has started to occur more frequently recently, and am definitely going straight to the dealership the next time it's misfiring. However, the problem simply will correct itself randomly while driving (generally once the engine gets warmer) as well. Though very very occasionally on the highway I've felt is misfire for just a second or two and then go back to normal. What could be causing this?
11 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWhy do I have to hold down the handle until my toilet completely flushes?
I had a problem with a leak underneath my toilet's tank so I bought a toilet tank repair kit and replaced all the inner tank mechanisms, including a new flapper valve. Even though the chain connected to the flapper is as taut as it can be, I have to hold the handle down until the toilet completely flushes or else the flapper falls too soon. This was not the case before. There are no visible rips or tears in the new flapper and I have it set to maximum volume. Any suggestions?
7 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoI believe my steering rack MAY be bent. Need advice on possible solutions and outcomes?
I have a 2002 Nissan Spec V that slid into a curb recently. The steering wheel was vibrating between 60-70mph so I took it in for a rebalancing, which revealed that the wheels on the passenger side got bent, the front one fairly severely. Replaced all the wheels and the vibration problem is solved. However the day that I took the car in to get the wheels replaced, I noticed a tapping sound only as I progressively turned the wheels to the right at low speeds or while sitting still. This sound remained after the wheels were replaced. I jacked the car up for a look and I could clearly see the right side steering rack boot was torn on the outside seal and it had some trouble sliding smoothly as I turned the wheel.
An educated guess would say that I bent my steering rack when I hit that curb. I will have to get it replaced eventually, however I am tight on cash and need to do some high mileage driving next week. How bad is it to drive on it as is? What are the potential problems that could result? Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWhat's causing graphic artifacts in my games?
Recently I've started getting graphical artifacts in some of the games I'm playing. The artifacts will steadily get worse, then the game will freeze for about 5-10 seconds. When it unfreezes, the screen looks fine with no artifacts, then the process repeats with artifacts eventually appearing on screen again and getting worse until it "resets". The games run, but it makes it frustrating to play. Is my graphics card overheating? I've dusted the entire system out.
1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoI successfully went through a minor in possession (MIP) deferment program, is it still on my record?
Several years ago I received a citation for a minor in possession of alcohol on my college campus. My university and the city have a joint program for MIP'd students called MIP deferment program where one must initially plead guilty and then submit to 3 months of probation which includes drug/alcohol awareness classes and random breathalyzer tests if the court so chooses. I successfully completed this and as I understand this offense (the MIP) was to be removed or was technically never on my record. I'm applying for the Peace Corps currently and am wondering if this falls into the category of "alcohol/drug-related" offenses where I've been charged or received a citation, despite it supposedly not being on my record. I don't want to put anything down that my tarnish my application if I don't have to! Any help (people with legal experience?) would be highly appreciated.
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoStrange noises from front-left axle in 2002 Nissan Spec V?
5 months ago had my front left CV axle and inner tie rod replaced as I had a similar issue then with a cyclic screeching sound when turning right and/or decelerating (not braking). The other day that same screeching sound has returned accompanied by a constant ratcheting sound while the wheels are moving. The screeching sound stops when I apply the brakes but the racheting continues as long as I am moving. Turning either direction doesn't seem to make the noises better or worse as it makes the noises while I'm going straight as well. The noises are loud enough to turn peoples' heads on the street and make them say "what the hell is that sound?" (so it's pretty bad). When looking at the CV boots on the left side both looked fine, though I did notice a bit of oil dripping from what looked like a joint toward the middle of the axle, slightly on the left side of the car. Had all brake pads and rotors replaced 5 months ago as well. What's the problem here? Quite frustrating, only 61k miles.
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoIf a roommate is illegal (not on the lease) and refusing to pay utilities, can I take legal action?
The illegal has moved out for the summer along with my other two legal roommates leaving me and two subleasers there over the summer. Pre-summer utility bills are still arriving that need to be paid, and the illegal and his parents (source of income) are refusing to pay the remaining utilities despite me going out of my way to fax invoices to them in Texas (I'm in Michigan). Can I take him to small claims court or do anything legally to obtain this money despite him not being on the lease?
14 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoNoise when turning right or decelerating from right front wheel?
I have a 2002 Nissan Spec V that recently started making a loud cyclic noise from the right front wheel. I was on a road trip down in Florida when I first noticed this occur (I live in Michigan). The noise at first only happened when I turned right while driving, now it sometimes happens when I'm going straight as well (but not turning left). The noise also does not occur when I'm braking or accelerating, but happens when I am decelerating.
At first, I thought this was my brakes, as they need replacing. Ordered new rotors/pads and am getting them installed this week. However, I noticed yesterday after taking a couple hour trip to visit a friend that the noise from the wheel is significantly reduced now after that trip on the highway, but I can still hear it if I turn off the radio and listen closely. I'm confused now, do I have a problem with my differential or wheel bearings? Could it just be worn brakes? Being that the noise ceases when I apply the brakes, I'm getting worried...
