Why do Shihtzus lick their own nose so often?
My room mate has a shihtzu that licks its own nose for 5-10 minutes at a time. Its breath is horrendous, can smell it from across the room when she does this. Also, it gets pretty annoying after a while. Why does the dog do this? Is this normal behavior for shihtzus, or is this some sort of habit this dog has formed?

IF he licks his nose allot he has an allergy(or allergy's) he is probably trying to lick he snot of his upper lip, tell your room mate to get him to a vet get some medicine and he will be just good. the breath can be magically cured with a simple DOG tooth brush and DOG Tooth paste hahaha or even just some thing like danta sticks or any type of good breath smelling treats. If he is active annoying or just the previous things annoy you you soon fret no more if he is a puppy then hell grow out of it if he is full grown he needs more activity. That's al hope it helps.

Brachycephalic breeds often do this to rid their nose of dirt, dust etc..... It is normal for these types of dogs to do this, however 10 minutes seems a bit excessive...
