I want to clean my carpet, but..?

i dont have a steam cleaner and there is no where around here to rent one. i thought about just getting on my hands and knees and scrubbing it, could i possibly use Lysol all purpose cleaner? i have that and 409 on hand right now, and i am having guests tomorrow, so i would like to get this clean as soon as possible without having to run out and buy any more products. any help will be appreciated.

If you go on your hands and knees to scrub the carpet, it might not dry for tomorrow...and you might end up with mould if it doesn't dry quickly...that's why they use steam cleaners for carpets.

If you have spills, I would spot clean them, vinegar and baking soda are best for just gently cleaning, and you don't have to worry about staining or removing color from your carpet. Just vacume the carpet first to remove all big messes then hand scrub problem areas...you don't want to hand scrub the whole carpet and end up having your guest tip-toe over wet carpet.

We have used Spray and Wash in a pinch, just don't use too much or it will sud up on you. This is only really for spot cleaning though!
