a negative times a negative is a postive.

so, t + 16 = 9...now subtract 16 from both sides to isolate the t

t = 9-16

t = - 7

Remember to perform mathematical functions from Left to Right, just like we read. t minus a minus 16 is the same as saying t + 16 = 9. In order to get the left half of the equation down to 9, t must be a minus number. -7 +16 = 9. t = -7.

t-(-16)=9

t+16=9 switch the 2 neg. signs and make them addition like so.

subtract 16-9 which equals 7.

and if you make 7 negative and take it away from 16 you would get positive 9

so t is a negitave number t= -7

-7+16=9

two negatives (like 1--1 or 1-(-1)) is the same as one positive (1+1)

so this one plays out like this:

t+16=9

-16 -16

t= -7

t-(-16)=9 change the subtraction into addition and then make the -16 positive so the proublem is t+16=9 now take 9-16 and you get -7

minusing a negative is basically adding so change it to

t+16=9 so t must be negative and 9 - 16 equals -7
