Casey, this is a great question! Read on, please.

Suzie, I think reading the raptureready site is a great exercise if all you want is to have someone else explain it all to you. The Christian Church is currently going through a phase of dispensationalism (last 150 years or so) but other fads have swept the church across the last two millennia and have petered out. The historicist view has just as much Biblical support and probably a much greater historical following. The preterists are still hoping that this is their year (pun intended.)

If you want to discover more about Christ's return, pray, fast, read the Bible, and the Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth. Don't take anyone's word for it. Do the hard work. It is a worthwhile thing.

But by all means, seek first the Kingdom of God and all the rest will be added to you. If you must seek elsewhere, may I suggest John Wesley's sermon entitled, "Catholic Spirit." The title has nothing to do with the Roman Catholic church by the way.

Go do the hard work. Enjoy! Grace & Peace.

The rapture is believed to be the time when spirit anointed Christians will rise from earth , being made into spirit creatures for life in the heavens.

Now what does the Bible say about such matters.

Well it is true , that there is a heavenly resurrection., this is called the first resurrection.

The purpose of this first resurrection is made very clear in the scriptures.

Revelation 20:4 'And I saw thrones, and there were those who sat down on them , and the power of judging was given to them. ---- And they came to life and ruled with Christ for a thousand years'

So ones raised to life in heaven would be kings and priests ruling with Christ for a thousand years , with their main purpose --- 'judging'.

Judging who ..? who could they judge if all righteous men were in the heavens.?

Revelation 14:3 '---- and no one was able to master that song but the one hundred and forty-four thousand, who have been bought form the earth.'

Yes the ones going to heaven are limited in number , of which is exactly 144,000 bought from over the whole earth and form the spiritual twelve tribes of Israel.

So if that number is set , what about all other loyal Christians? .What is their future.?

Again the Bible is clear on the point.

Revelation 20:13 'And the sea gave up those dead in it, and death and Hades gave up those dead in them , and they were judged according to their deeds.'

Yes there is a second resurrection for the majority , to a life on earth.

It is then that the heavenly class will judge all men alive at that time, the ones that have been resurrected and the ones that have survived through Armageddon, allowing the righteous to live on , and the unrighteous will be permanently destroyed.

The ones remaining , still a great crowd (Rev7:9) , will remain alive on earth , able to live in true peace and security with bodies restored to perfect health., not ever needing to die.

This is the plan that what was set before Adam and Eve in the garden of eden., but what they lost.

Never the less , This is the purpose for man.

These things will soon take place.

Soon Jehovah God will decree that enough time has passed to prove Satan the lier and unfit ruler that he is.

Jehovah will then give his son Jesus Christ authority and power to deliver the judgment upon Satan , his demons , his world system of false religion and of course wicked mankind.

For them it will be a time of great distress., but for people that are truly following what the Bible teaches it will be a great day of deliverance.

The rapture is a fulfillment of this promise:

Rev 3: 10: Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

Jesus was a man, a good man yes, but alas still a man. All men are destined to die (sadly even the good ones). Jesus died, NO MATTER HOW GOOD YOU ARE YOU CANNOT COME BACK FROM THE DEAD!!!
