Is it abnormal when a person cannot cry?

There are times I feel stressed out and I feel like crying but if I try it is as if my tear glands are dry. People believe me I haven't cried in years( I am 21). Do you think there is somthing wrong with me or am I just very strong?

I have the same problem. Sometimes i feel sentimental or depressed, but the tears never seem to surface. I don't think it's a serious problem though. nothing to be concerned about. Maybe you should do research on the inability to cry.

there could be lots of reasons for this

a traumatic childhood event or being punished for crying as a child

    feeling repressed

    feeling overwhelmed

    side effect of certain antidepressants

    and others.

i'd suggest thinking about the last time you cried. also think about the feelings you have when you're feeling like you want to cry. are you putting up some kind of block psychologically?

ask people on yahoo to make you a list of some really sad songs. ask a separate question about really sad movies. music always does it for me.

i've had this problem too (though lately i have the opposite problem; everything makes me cry! lol). but bottom line... you're not abnormal! :)

If you haven't cried in that long, you should see a doctor immediately. On Diagnosis X ( a T.V. show), someone couldn't cry for years then one day they started having other symptoms that tied into the no crying thing.
