i shall certainly keep an eye out for the answers you receive, I'm 35 weeks and i get that nearly every day, every antenatal visit i remind myself to ask and then forget lol my hubbby put his ear to my tummy when it happened and he said it sounds like a thud! i know it isnt baby as he moves completely separately to the tapping. Maybe it is our pulse like someone else has mentioned its certainly not hiccups as its far to fast, anyway i have antenatal next Tuesday and i will try and remember to ask lol

It probably IS your pulse. You have a "pulse point" in your groin and due to the extra blood flow in your pelvic region you may be able to feel it. If it's a solid, rhythmic tap tap tap like a heartbeat then this is what it is. Your heartbeat by the way, not the baby's. See if you can feel the pulse in your wrist or neck and if it is about the same pace, there's your answer. It's nothing to worry about at all, it isn't that uncommon.

Hiccups in a fetus usually aren't as rapid or as constant as a heartbeat rhythm. Think about hiccups in newborns, they don't hiccup over and over every second or so, it would distress them. Try it yourself.

Definitely hiccups~ mine gets them about 4-5 times a day and drives me nuts! I'm 37 weeks, and trust me, the bigger the baby gets, the bigger the thumping! Good new is that if the tapping is at the bottom of your belly, then the baby is likely head-down!

    Baby hiccups!!!

My son used to get them all the time. Its like a little rhythmical pulse deep inside. He used to get them especially at night when I was trying to go to sleep lol!

Funny thing is, ever since he's been born he's very prone to hiccups too. He's 10 months old now.

i got that alot with both, i allways thought it was the cord.

my babies were always playing with they're cord. the advise i was given was that if it goes on right up to birth, tell someone, not to scare, (but it happened to me bothtimes.) i had that quite early with both and it did go on right up till birth and the cord was round babies, silly things get caught up in it. caused no problems as your am. cord is quite long.

i would ask you midwife/gp if you are worried.

I think your baby may have the hiccups! lol mine gets them all of the time and it becomes annoying sometimes but its very common, they get the hiccups from swallowing the amniotic fluid and its nothing to worry about.

    good luck x
