racism is a terrible thing, dont you agree?
i had a friend who was WW2 veteran who is now deceased.
he was a black man and we were very close.he talked to me
alot about things that he didnt talk about with most people.
like events that he witnessed and was part of in the war.
he also talked about how things were in america back then
concerning african-americans and how they were treated as
if they were a lower class of people and didnt have the same
rights and privileges such as their access to certain public
places , restrooms etc.
here was a man who had served his country, risking life and limb everyday fighting for the freedom of others, and yet some
that he had fought for treated him as if he were inferior to
them when he was back in his home country...the same nation and people that he had fought for.
racism is a terrible thing...what are your thoughts?

Yes I also believe racism is a terrible thing.
Galatians 3:28-29 says: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise.” †
So in God’s eyes no race is better then any other race, we are all the same in Christ. †
Edit: I see some answers on here saying that it is just human nature or the worse part of human nature; this is not true. Racism is not human nature; it is a behavior that has been taught and passed down from our ancestors.

Good question. Is racism terrible? It is a human condition. just like gender-ism, class separation, cast systems and religious superiority, racism exempt from all other negative social evils seems pretty terrible. The fact is, remove all of these social Ills, and what is left? Peace on earth and goodwill to all? I think not. Total annihilation might achieve that, but would be counterproductive. Who is willing to live in a totally androgynous, equal society? If that was achieved, if it could be, someone would insist they would be the best person to lead the masses, starting the whole thing over again. So, in and of itself, racism is terrible. But not the end of the world. Yet.

when someone is prejudice to me, well I would just as soon use the other bathroom, I live in the southwest and I am white and I would prefer not to live around what the majority of the people are here I would prefer to be segregated and I would not mind using the inferior facilities (of course I am living for the day I leave the southwest) I find the people here too immature and prejudice to allow communication with that attitude who cares they have to be possessed with some demon or some unpleasantness to be prejudice like that.
not exactly an answer to your question, the prejudice that Black guy was experiencing was happening long before I could do anything about it. what can one do, people realize prejudice is based on fear and insecurity a person cant control it a person cant control the actions or and thoughts of another, foolish people bring and incite wrath and silly people are envious

Racism is a very touchy subject. Back when I was in elementry school I hung out with black and hispanic kids since I was the only white (or white looking) kid who lived in a lower middle class family in the district. Kids tried fingering me as a racist either to get out've a fight or to make me lose all my friends. Most of my heritage is jewish and native american but at one point when I used to shave my head people looked at me as if the SS was walking by. Theirs even a black millitant group in my town who I have encountered that claimed I was racist because i'm according to them "white". It's sad when people label you racist because of your skin. But in a sense that is racism as well. It shouldn't matter on race or ethnicity since everyone is unique. So yes I think racism is terrible.

Sadly racism is something that lies within ALL races. A black person can be racist against an Asian, An Asian can be racist against a Hispanic and so forth ......
I personally can not get my head around the concept of somebody hating another person because of the colour of their skin ....
I CAN understand judging the acts of an individual ... but not blaming a whole body of people for their(ie the individual) actions.

I agree with you that racism is a terrible thing--and I am surprised that your first answerer thinks it is *worse* to be accused of racism than to be the recipient of it. Being accused of racism is at worst a minor annoyance. It doesn't compromise our rights, or hurt our bodies, or stretch our necks, like being subjected to racism might. And at best? Accusations of racism can open our eyes to ways we can each be better people.

Racism reflects the worst part of human nature... It is a result of pure ignorance. Only the more intelligent can overcome being taught to hate... as it is pure hatred.

I do think that the consequences of our actions create these terrible scenarios, but at the same time, it is in our nature to think that 'our' group is superior than others. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it's human nature.

Yes , but whats worse is not being racist and being slandered as such like what goes on daily! Blacks and hispanics are racist too so include all in your question! Thanks a bunch!
