Are all Starbuck's employees obnoxiously perky?
Is it a corporate requirement, do they send them to the Stepford Wives/Kathy Lee Gifford School of Communication as part of their training? Or is it just all that exposure to excessive amounts of sugar and caffeine getting to them?
Honestly, if you just want (or really need) a cup of strong coffee you may not be in the mood for all that fake sunshiny cheer!
Any thoughts???

No they are not. My friend works there and she is really mellow and quiet but, at work, they are required to be freakily chipper.
As for wanting discounted coffee, she can't stand the stuff but she needed a job and they were hiring.

If I havent had my morning coffee then im not evenworth speaking to. Starbucks makes matters worse by employing these increasingly annoying staff. Just give me my coffee and dont make eye contact or talk to me about having a good day.

Sometimes people go a bit overboard in trying to impart a friendly image to others, and sometimes employees seem to go a bit overboard. At the Starbucks I visit upon occasion everyone is friendly and helpful but not syrupy sweet in any way. They greet me with a smile and take my order which comes up in a timely fashion. Hooray!

Companies want to present a cheery image because that will sell more stuff. But also, why do you think they work at a coffee place? Could it be the discounted coffee?

I do not think that they are all cheerful. Where I live, they just ask you if they can help you, and then say thank you. I think that it is a calming atmosphere to be around.
