Anyone want to join my boycott?

I wish I could push a button that would allow me to get a customer service rep that SPOKE English! I'm getting fed up with trying to understand non-native English speakers that read from a script. In fact, I've committed to cease patronizing or buying from those companies that have outsourced their customer service to such agencies. I've closed a bank account and returned two pieces of electronic equipment over the matter. Anyone else with me on this?

Update:

Aw, come on, you guys! We ALL need to be in this together. Consumers rule!!

Update 2:

And, thanks to you others that have the spirit - not to mention essential body parts - to get this movement going on a national scale. You are awesome!

Update 3:

Geez, Buttercup, I ain't no racist or xenophobic. I'm even bi-lingual Spanish-English and lived in Mexico for a couple of years. This is a BUSINESS decision. Nothing personal regarding those brave individuals in foreign countries that try to do their jobs.

I agree with you in principle, SafetyDancer, but it's a matter of simple economics of major corporations these days - a cost cutting measure that helps hold prices for us all. By farming out this sort of work to internationals whose pay scale is so far below that of the US, et. al. consumer costs are far less than they might otherwise be.

When I find a rep. difficult to understand I'll ask them to slow their speech or ask for another rep.

I would prefer NOT to have to boycott my ISP, my phone co. and TV satellite provider, all of which i consider expensive enough under the status quo.

Boundaries between countries and cultures are shrinking. Good luck trying to exclude reality. In order to be competitive, we can't stick our heads in the sand and pray everything will remain the same.

While it would be nice if our corporations invested more in the US than looking at bottom-line dollars, short-cuts, and short-term profits, it's a dog-eat-dog world out there and it's getting worse. Other countries are stepping up for their piece of the pie and we no longer have the luxury of turning up our noses at them.

I've lived in countries and in a city (NYC) that was multilingual. Not a big deal except for the xenophobic and insecure, in my opinion. As long as English is an option, what's the big deal? I've spoken with American representatives from all over, and I have trouble understanding US accents at times. Foreign accents are no different to me.

We have choices as consumers, and I do prefer to support companies who support my ideals, but I'm wary of anything that smacks of xenophobia.

I empathize fellow warrior. Unfortunately, I think you'll be hardpressed to find a national company without international customer service people. Best of luck.
