Can you get arrested just for talking to someone ?

A man(a) I'm working with threatened an other man(b) that if he even talked to him or his family he would call the police and have him arrested . . . this happened after the man(b) called man(a) sir. . as in the sentence "Sir could you work with us on keeping the camp ground quiet " . . man(a) told man(b) Sir is a curse word and that if he talked to him or his family he would have him arrested.

no. unless he was threatening them which counts as assault, then there is no grounds for that charge.

No, referring to someone as "sir" is considered polite and is not an arrestable offense. (If it was, then every police officer I've ever spoken to would have a reason to slap the handcuffs on me.) Threatening a person is considered offensive and is an arrestable offense, but man B did not threaten man A or his family. Man A sounds paranoid, mentally unbalanced and in serious need of psychiatric treatment.

Sounds like a proper charmer.Man a could call the police, but after they looked into the matter and if they found it as described by you,man a would be on the receiving end of police trouble. As in wasting their time!I'm assuming there is no prior history of trouble between a and b here. The guy sounds like a common or garden variety blowhard.

its all a bluff. The police have enough on their plate, why would they come out and arrest someone just for calling that man a "sir"? If he had a restraining order that would be totally different.

The only way man "A" could be arrested would be if man "B" had a restraining order. Maybe he misunderstood the word "sir"? If not, he's an idiot!

You cannot get arrested for talking to someone unless it is a threat, etc. Calling someone 'sir' is by far not a threat. Man(b) is a moron if he thinks he can have man(a) arrested.

  • 1 decade ago

no not on a's first call to police. b would be warned by the police to have no further contact with a. if a again called the police would most likely issue a citation at most unless the nature of b's next contact with a could be construed as threatening to the well being of a

He could get arrested if he already has a restraining order to avoid him.

he could get arrested if he approaches man a on his property under trespassing grounds.

he could get arrested if he threatens him.

he could get arrested if he slanders, calls him names that are untrue and mean in front of witnesses that can verify this in court.

Only if a restraint order was issued by a judge against said person, otherwise it is just bullying tactics.

no....unless he does something he cannot even file any complaint
